Burn Gorman From ‘Pacific Rim’ & ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ Confirms Role In ‘Halo’ Series At Paramount+

We’ve been excited to see some first-look footage from the new live-action Halo series from Amblin that will air sometime in 2022. Halo’s cast consists of Pablo Schriber as Master Chief, Bookem Woodbine, Charlie Murphy, Olive Gray, Kate Kennedy, Yerin Ha, Jen Taylor, Shabana Azmi, Bentley Kalu, Natasha Culzac, and Danny Spani.

Based on the iconic Xbox franchise, Halo’s epic universe and cast of characters comes to life in this new original drama series. Halo reinvented how people think about video games and has grown into a global entertainment phenomenon, having sold more than 81 million copies worldwide. In the new television series adaptation, HALO will take place in the universe that first came to be in 2001, dramatizing an epic 26th-century conflict between humanity and an alien threat known as the Covenant. HALO will weave deeply drawn personal stories with action, adventure and a richly imagined vision of the future.

Otto Bathurst, Jonathan Liebesman, Roel Reine, and Jessica Lowery are directing various episodes.

Interestingly enough, British actor Burn Gorman had announced his involvement with Halo back in May on Instagram, while in Budapest (that people seemingly missed) and his agency Hamilton Hodell lists his character as Vishner. Gorman’s credits include Matthew Vaughn’s Layer Cake, Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises, Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim, and HBO’s Game of Thrones.

It’s been an abnormally long production for everyone involved with Halo due to the pandemic that started back in the fall of 2019 and only recently wrapped, which likely has exhausted a lot of people involved with Halo. It’s crew includes production designer Sophie Becher (Mars) alongside cinematographer Karl Walter Lindenlaub (Stargate, Independence Day, Black Book, Ninja Assassin) handling the bulk of the show’s episodes. There is also the expectation the action will be great after hiring stunt coordinator Tom Struthers, who has a laundry list of credits such as The Dark Knight, Dunkirk, Dune, Inception, and The Dark Knight Rises.

‘The Falcon & The Winter Soldier’: Elijah Richardson & ‘Dark Knight Rises’ Actor Tyler Dean Flores Confirmed For Roles By Talent Agency

After an IMDB listing was spotted months back that had young actor Elijah Richardson listed as Eli Bradley aka Patriot in The Falcon & The Winter Soldier, the entry was quickly removed and left a question mark if he had actually joined the Marvel series.

Well, it looks like both Richardson and Tyler Dean Flores (The Dark Knight Rises) have both been confirmed officially by their talent agency CESD Talent Agency (spotted by The Direct). As they congratulated the two actors via Instagram stories as the series premiered on Friday. However, it’s unclear what their roles actually are while Richardson may in fact be playing Bradley that part hasn’t been confirmed just yet.

It’s interesting to see what other characters will be revealed as we now know that Danny Ramirez is playing Joaquin Torres aka Falcon (Sam’s military partner) and Erin Kellyman is playing Karli Morgenthau a female version of the villain Flag-Smasher in the terrorist group called The Flag Smashers.

There have been plenty of rumors since production kicked-off about other characters that could appear and sadly some fan speculation that is already mimicking WandaVision’s outlandish expectations for cameos/introductions. I wouldn’t hold your breath that we’ll be seeing Wolverine or some haphazard introduction of the X-Men, this stuff certainly echoes the Magneto/Reed Richards and X-Men reveal speculation from sites that only angered fans when they didn’t get them in the final episode of WandaVision. Keeping expectations realistic isn’t a terrible thing.

New episodes of The Falcon & The Winter Soldier are expected to keep releasing on Disney+ every Friday, with five more episodes to go.

Christopher Nolan Unlikely To Work With Warner Bros. In The Future

A new report from The Wall Street Journal (spotted by The Playlist) is claiming that Warner Bros. golden-child director Christopher Nolan is now “unlikely” to make future films at the studio due to their decision to embrace a new day-and-date release model that is meant to boost subscriptions to HBO Max on the backs of the film division and filmmakers. This wouldn’t be terribly surprising as Christopher Nolan has been vocal against this release model since it’s announcement caught most directors it affected off guard and almost led to a potential lawsuit from production partner Legendary Entertainment.

The filmmaker made his opinions widely known in various interviews including the following quote from The Hollywood Reporter.

NOLAN: “Some of our industry’s biggest filmmakers and most important movie stars went to bed the night before thinking they were working for the greatest movie studio and woke up to find out they were working for the worst streaming service. Warner Bros. had an incredible machine for getting a filmmaker’s work out everywhere, both in theaters and in the home, and they are dismantling it as we speak. They don’t even understand what they’re losing. Their decision makes no economic sense, and even the most casual Wall Street investor can see the difference between disruption and dysfunction.”

Dune director Denis Villeneuve also made a similar plea to the studio in an op-ed at The Hollywood Reporter, suggesting the studio could be killing the Dune franchise.

This would be the first time in twenty years that Nolan had a movie that wasn’t made for Warner Bros. or distributed by them since 2001’s Memento. The filmmaker is one of the few people that can convince a studio to give him a blockbuster-level budget to make original films as seen with Inception, Interstellar, Dunkirk, and last summer’s Tenet.

If Nolan ultimately exits the studio this could be a huge loss for Warner Bros. and a sign of more creative fallout from WarnerMedia/AT&T’s new day-and-date model. The model sees WarnerMedia adding a bulk of their 2021 theatrical releases to their struggling streaming service HBO Max exclusively for a month at the same time the film is being released domestically in theaters, having HBO Max and theaters going head-to-head for audiences.

AT&T CEO John Stankey had previously alluded to The Washington Post in an interview, that this is likely going to be a release model they’ll be using beyond 2021 and the pandemic giving the impression they wouldn’t be turning back to regular release windows that gave theaters a proper amount of time to earn money.

STANKEY: “In March, we unleashed a new normal in society. That horse left the barn. I don’t think any of us are going to change that dynamic.”

Nolan could stick around at Warner Bros. if they change their minds on the release model or more likely he could easily find a home at another studio. I don’t think he’d have much trouble getting the same deal elsewhere given his track record.

Joey King To Co-Star With Brad Pitt In Sony’s Action Flick ‘Bullet Train’

Deadline reports that young actress Joey King is currently in negotiations to play the role of Prince in Sony’s action film Bullet Train from director David Leitch (Deadpool 2, Atomic Blonde). Oscar-winner Brad Pitt is set to play an assassin named Ladybug. 

The film is based on the novel Maria Beetle from Japanese author Kotaro Isaka, it will focus on a group of assassins on a bullet train. 

King’s credits include The Dark Knight Rises, The Conjuring, White House Down, The Act, and most recently with Netflix’s The Kissing Booth 2. 

Filming is expected to begin this fall in Los Angeles, California. 

However, that will likely be dependant on how the city/state is doing with the pandemic and if there is a second wave that shuts down productions.

‘Fallout’ Series Officially Coming To Amazon – Produced By ‘Westworld’s Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan

Another high-concept and potentially expense series is coming to Amazon Prime Video.

Today, game developer Bethesda announced that they’re partnering with Amazon Studios and Kilter Films to bring to life a live-action series based on the beloved post-apocalypse video game franchise Fallout.

They’ve hired Westworld series co-creators and showrunners Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan to develop the show for the streaming service via Kilter Films and will act as producers. Nolan is also known as a screenwriter working on his brother Christopher Nolan’s films such as Interstellar, The Prestige, The Dark Knight, and The Dark Knight Rises.

Amazon Studios has licensed the rights to the worldwide best-selling game franchise Fallout, with acclaimed producers Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy’s Kilter Films attached to produce the project, currently in development with a series commitment.

The world of Fallout is one where the future envisioned by Americans in the late 1940s explodes upon itself through a nuclear war in 2077. The magic of the Fallout world is the harshness of the wasteland set against the previous generation’s utopian idea of a better world through nuclear energy. It is serious and harsh in tone, yet sprinkled with moments of ironic humor and B-movie-nuclear-fantasies.Fallout games have achieved record-setting sales and received hundreds of awards, including dozens of Game of the Year awards, while its mobile game, Fallout Shelter, has been downloaded more than 170 million times.

Fallout is from Amazon Studios and Kilter Films in association with Bethesda Game Studios and Bethesda Softworks, with executive producers Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, and Athena Wickham for Kilter Films, Todd Howard for Bethesda Game Studios, and James Altman for Bethesda Softworks.

The pair’s Kilter Films is also in pre-production on their series adaptation of the William Gibson cyberpunk novel The Peripheral.

Lisa Joy recently made her feature film directorial debut with her sci-fi thriller Reminiscence for Warner Bros. starring Hugh Jackman, Rebecca Ferguson, and Thandie Newton.

This is yet another high-profile series in development at Amazon Prime Video as they’re about to resume production on their fantasy shows such as The Lord of The Rings and The Wheel of Time.

If successful, I’m curious if Amazon Studios will also attempt to license the rights for Doom and Skyrim in the future to give those properties series adaptations as well.
