Daniel Bruhl Comments On Baron Zemo Leading The Thunderbolts

With Daniel Bruhl reprising the role of Baron Zemo in Marvel’s The Falcon & The Winter Soldier, we’ve been extremely curious if we’ll see the villain end up taking a leadership role via The Thunderbolts. A super-team made up of Marvel villains and anti-heroes, led at one point by Zemo himself.

Speaking exclusively with our pals over at Espacio Marvelita, Daniel responded to a question about seeing Zemo leading the Thunderbolts. It sounds like Daniel doesn’t see Zemo as a team player and suggests that he’s too smart to take a leadership role.

(A rough translation of Spanish to English via Google)

BRUHL: “Obviously. And there is only one team, there is only one Team Zemo, there should be no other (laughs). No, I don’t know, what’s up. He’s a very smart and very manipulative guy, and that has always been a lot of fun for me. We must not trust Zemo at any time and to see where it will end up, it is not known. But the question of being a leader, is still too smart to be a leader, because leaders also always end, they end badly, so he is one of those characters who always continues to manage things behind the curtain. He’s a Machiavelli, it’s the book he’s reading in the series. And these guys always have a lot of power. It’s like in the past, the one who was always whispering into the king’s ear. He’s one of these guys you have to be very careful with.”

While I enjoyed Captain America: Civil War I didn’t find that incarnation of Daniel’s Zemo that terribly compelling or interesting. What we recently saw with Episode 3 of The Falcon & The Winter Soldier was a fun and charismatic version of Zemo (how can you not love those dance moves?), someone I think we all want to see more of in the future. However, while there are plenty of signs that Marvel Studios is building up to an MCU version of The Thunderbolts it remains to be seen if Zemo will be ultimately part of that roster.

Zemo being allowed to develop into fixture of the MCU wouldn’t be terribly shocking with Loki and Bucky being given second chances to play the roles of heroes after being main villains in previous projects.

Episode 4 of The Falcon & The Winter Soldier drops tomorrow on Disney+.

‘Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania’ Indeed Planning To Shoot Scenes In San Francisco

Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania is going to be third installment in the Ant-Man franchise with director Peyton Reed returning alongside a a growing cast that consists of Paul Rudd as Scott Lang, Michael Douglas as Dr. Hank Pym, Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet, Kathryn Newton as the new Cassie Lang, and Lovecraft Country’s Jonathan Majors playing Marvel Comics baddie Kang The Conqueror.

The Ronin has been able to confirm that Marvel is planning on returning to shoot selected scenes in San Francisco, California at some point during the film’s production and likely will be exteriors. Back in November, we had heard that filming would be heading back but can now confirm this information as the studio is in the pre-production stage and securing filming locations before the summer shoot.

San Francisco is the main setting of the first two Ant-Man films and Marvel shot there briefly last year for Destin Daniel Cretton’s Shang-Chi & The Legend of The Ten Rings. Sony’s Venom and Venom: Let There Be Carnage has also used to location.

The Ant-Man sequel is expected to shoot primarily in the United Kingdom at Pinewood Studios UK under the working title Dust Bunny (via Production Weekly). The Pinewood facility is said to have The Volume, which Peyton Reed got experience using on the two episodes of The Mandalorian he directed for Season 2. As we previously revealed, the production designer will be Will Htay (Andor, No Time To Die, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Rogue One, Solo).

Shooting their projects in multiple cities/countries has been tough for Marvel Studios during the pandemic and they might have scaled-back certain plans, but they’ve been able to manage this sparingly. The Hawkeye series has been able to shoot in both New York City and the Atlanta area despite the risk of any production shooting in the United States at the moment. Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness is also said to have scenes shot in New York City even though the main production is at Longcross Studios in Surrey, England.

Lilly announcing on Instagram that filming on the sequel will begin this summer.

Marvel Studios hasn’t given Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania an official release date but could be released sometime in 2022.

‘Captain Marvel 2’: ‘Widows’ Cinematographer Sean Bobbitt Reveals He’s Joined The Marvel Sequel

Captain Marvel 2 will see Nia DaCosta (Candyman) direct a trio of Marvel Studios heroines with the main cast set to star Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, Iman Vellani as Ms. Marvel, and Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau. As production is expected to take place this year under the working title Goat Rodeo (via Production Weekly) in the United Kingdom, a cinematographer has seemingly been selected.

Sean Bobbitt revealed to Below The Line News back in February that he’s signed-up for Captain Marvel 2 and that filming is indeed taking place in 2021.

BOBBITT: “I’m hoping to get back. I’m sort of signed-up to shoot Captain Marvel 2, so that will be a real change for me. It’s a very different type of film to what I usually make, and I’m very excited to be a part of that.”

The cinematographer’s credits include 12 Years A Slave, Judas & The Black Messiah, Widows, Byzantium, Shame, Hunger, The Place Beyond The Pines, and the Oldboy remake. Notably working consistently with British filmmaker Steve McQueen on a regular basis.

Zawe Ashton is reportedly playing a villain in Captain Marvel 2 and will likely have some connection to the Disney+ series Secret Invasion, which has a Skrull-focused plot with Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Ben Mendelsohn as Talos taking lead roles. The ending of WandaVision seemed to hint that Parris’ Monica Rambeau might end up showing up in Secret Invasion as well.

The original film took place mostly in the 1995 and we last saw Talos pretending to be Nick Fury in Spider-Man: Far From Home. It should be interesting seeing Danvers interacting with Monica and Fury in the present. We have to assume that the new cosmic organization S.W.O.R.D. (introduced in WandaVision) will have an increased role in both Secret Invasion and the Captain Marvel sequel.

Captain Marvel 2 currently has a release date of November 11, 2022.

‘Black Widow’: New Trailer Finally Gives Us A Glimpse At Ray Winstone’s Dreykov

Marvel/Disney has released some new promotional material for Black Widow as the Scarlett Johansson flick had been given a new release date of July 9, 2021. We get another trailer and a first-look at Ray Winstone’s General Dreykov with Taskmaster in that new footage. The villain is the head of The Red Room, the program that molded Natasha into a Russian assassin.

BLACK WIDOW – In Black Widow, Natasha Romanoff confronts the darker parts of her ledger when a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past arises. Pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down, Natasha must deal with her history as a spy and the broken relationships left in her wake long before she became an Avenger. Directed by Cate Shortland and produced by Kevin Feige, the movie stars Scarlett Johansson reprising her role as Natasha Romanoff. Florence Pugh stars as Yelena Belova, David Harbour as Alexei Shostakov aka Red Guardian, and Rachel Weisz as Melina Vostokoff.

The Grandmaster Might Be Indeed Returning For ‘Thor: Love & Thunder’ – Jeff Goldblum Spotted In Sydney

Thor: Love & Thunder will see the return of the Loki play as seen in set photos and it’s expected that actor Sam Neill (Jurassic Park) will be back as Odin in that play, reprising a brief cameo from Thor: Ragnarok. That play will include Matt Damon as Loki, Luke Hemsworth as Thor, and Melissa McCarthy as Hela.

Interestingly enough, Sam Neill posted an image on Twitter of himself with Jurassic Park and Jurassic World: Dominion co-star Jeff Goldbum together in Sydney, where production is taking place on Thor: Love & Thunder at Fox Studios Australia. The pair also happened to have both appeared in Taika’s Thor: Ragnarok with Jeff playing cosmic villain The Grandmaster.

There seems to be a strong possibility Jeff might be in town to shoot something for the sequel, could we see a return of The Grandmaster?

Goldblum told BuzzFeed he was considering a return back in late 2019 and was already recording voice over for The Grandmaster in the Disney+ animated series What…If?

GOLDBLUM: “Hey, we’re talking about it, in fact. You know, I hope so. I love Taika Waititi, he’s a great director and a friend of mine, so I hope so…But I played the part again a couple of days ago. I went to the Disney studios and I recorded the Grandmaster’s voice for an episode of a show that’s gonna be on Disney+ called What If…?”

Last weekend, Russell Crowe was seen with Taika Waititi and Chris Hemsworth at a South Sydney Rabbitohs game, only for his role in Thor: Love & Thunder to be announced days later. While not a iron-shut case that Jeff is reprising the role of The Grandmaster, it’s been noted that most high-profile actors in the area have been connected to the sequel and seeing a former cast member of Thor: Ragnarok, who played it’s secondary villain could suggest he might be there to film something for the Marvel sequel.

Jeff also would have had to spend two weeks in a quarantine hotel before taking this photo with Sam.

Thor: Love & Thunder is set to be released on May 6, 2022, unless there is another Marvel Studios slate shift in the future.

‘Shang-Chi’: Dallas Liu Reportedly Joins The Cast

Marvel Studios recently moved the release date of Destin Daniel Cretton’s Shang-Chi & The Legend of The Ten Rings from July 9, 2021 to September 3, 2021 as they delayed Black Widow to that July spot.

There is now word of yet another casting addition to the Asian-led superhero flick. Actor Dallas Liu (Pen15) has reportedly joined the cast of Shang-Chi according to Deadline, however, the outlet doesn’t mention the character he’ll be playing.

Production wrapped last year with the filming primarily taking place at Fox Australia Studios in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. They paused filming in early 2020 due to the pandemic but resumed last summer and was able to complete principal photography along with some brief exterior shots in San Francisco.

The film’s cast includes Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, Awkwafina as Katy, Tony Leung as Wenwu aka The Mandarin, Michelle Yeoh, Ronny Chieng as Jon Jon, Meng’er Zhang as Xialing, Fala Chen as Jiang Li, and Florian Munteanu as Razor Fist.

Shang-Chi aka Master of Kung-Fu, as his title would suggest is an expert in martial arts and eventually in the comics was given the super-human ability to make copies of himself, not unlike mutant character Multiple Man. It’s unclear if we’ll be seeing Shang-Chi’s more recent power-set or if that will come later.

While unconfirmed, there is a strong possibility the film will attempt to introduce/tease the Atlas Foundation (base of operations is underneath San Francisco), which could lead to the superhero team Agents of Atlas joining the MCU. A recent incarnation has Shang-Chi as a member and Randall Park’s FBI Agent Jimmy Woo has always had a leadership role on the roster.

We’ll continue to hope that we’ll get a Shang-Chi trailer in the very near future.

Daisy Ridley “Open To Anything” Concerning A Future Role In The MCU

While many fans have been championing Star Wars actress Daisy Ridley for the role of Marvel Comics heroine Jessica Drew aka Spider-Woman, it sounds like she is open to pretty much anything related to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

During an interview with Comic Book Movie, Ridley suggests she might be open to things other than Spider-Woman and even brings up the Disney+ series WandaVision. Potentially hinting to an openness to tackle something in television as well as on the big screen.

RIDLEY: “Well, it’s funny because someone asked me off the cuff about the Spider-Woman rumors recently, and I went, ‘Oh, that sounds great.’ Apparently, I’ve now declared myself a front-runner to be Spider-Woman which isn’t true!. It’s funny because I don’t really choose things… I [didn’t] set out to do another ‘big film.’ I just read the script, loved it, and loved the idea of it.”

“Basically, should something come along and be great, of course, I’d be open to anything. I just finished WandaVision. What they did with it is so amazing and different and interesting. To be particularly in that world, which is ever-shifting and reimagining itself would be very exciting.”

Just because fans would like to see her play Spider-Woman it doesn’t mean it will actually happen and it’s worth mentioning there are many female characters connected to the MCU that she could end up playing besides Jessica Drew.

Olivia Wilde is reportedly directing a Spider-Woman film for Sony Pictures but it hasn’t been announced if Marvel Studios would be officially participating in the project.

It’s worth mentioning that the X-Men franchise is on the horizon. I could see Daisy playing a grown-up version X-23 or Morlock leader Callisto as it would allow her to play slightly more gruff characters than she has recently. I don’t know if she’s capable of a Southern accent for a character like X-Men’s Rogue, but that would lead to some interactions with Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel as she drains her powers to gain the ability of flight and super-strength.

We have to assume that roles such as S.W.O.R.D.’s Abigail Brand, Namora, Crystal, and Power Princess might be coming in the future too.

Playing either Rogue and Brand would allow Ridley to share scenes with Brie Larson, combining the two into a single project would totally irk a segment of the childish online community that share equal hate for Rey and Captain Marvel.

Russell Crowe Reportedly Joins Marvel’s ‘Thor: Love & Thunder’

After social media posts revealed that Russell Crowe, Chris Hemsworth, and director Taika Waititi hung out at a South Sydney Rabbitohs game in Sydney over the weekend. It looks like he’s secured himself a part in their upcoming MCU installment as Deadline is reporting that Crowe has landed an undisclosed role in Thor: Love & Thunder. However, it’s still unclear how much screen time Russell will actually get and even what the character is.

Production on the Thor sequel kicked-off back in January and has been mostly taking place at Fox Studios Australia located in Sydney, New South Wales Australia. The same facility used to film Riley Scott’s Alien: Covenant and Marvel’s Shang-Chi & The Legend of The Ten Rings.

The Oscar-winner is no stranger to action flicks as he played Jor-El in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel and earned an Oscar for his role in Ridley Scott’s epic Gladiator. He also nabbed Oscar nominations for A Beautiful Mind and Michael Mann’s The Insider.

Crowe isn’t the only DC Comics alum in the cast as former Batman, Christian Bale, is playing the film’s main villain called Gorr The God Butcher. A pale skinned alien creature that likely will require motion-capture similar to Thanos and The Children of Thanos.

Taika is also said to have a role in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. His role is most likely voicing the cosmic villain Starro after it was revealed in the latest trailer that Sly Stallone would be voicing King Shark in the DC sequel. This would make Waititi DC Comics alum as well just like Crowe and Bale.

The Aussie actor joins a rather large cast that also includes Hemsworth as Thor, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster aka Lady Thor, Tessa Thompson as King Valkyrie of New Asgard, Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Dave Bautista as Drax The Destroyer, Pom Klementieff as Mantis, Sean Gunn as Kraglin, Jaimie Alexander as Sif, Taika Waititi as Korg, Matt Damon, Luke Hemsworth, and Melissa McCarthy.

Disney has given Thor: Love & Thunder a release date of May 6, 2022.

SPOILERS: A New Captain America & Legacy of The Super-Soldier Program Explored In Episode 2 of ‘The Falcon & The Winter Soldier’

WARNING SPOILERS AHEAD FOR EPISODES 1-2

Episode 1 ended with the U.S. government selecting Wyatt Russell’s John Walker as the new Captain America and in Episode 2 we see a little background on the character giving him a little bit of personality. Walker also has his own sidekick with Battlestar being confirmed. However, his existence seems to irk both Sam and Bucky as the latter is frustrated that Wilson turned down the shield letting an outsider take over Steve’s mantle which went against his wishes.

We see most of The Flash Smashers have been enhanced with the super-soldier serum and are on the run from The Power Broker, a Marvel villain that has been teased in the end credits. This might suggest the masked group might not be as villainous as they’ve been made out to be and are trying to keep themselves one step ahead of the real villain. The Power Broker threatening to kill them.

Bucky reveals to Sam that there was another secret super-soldier, Isaiah Bradley, played by Carl Lumbly and there is an assumption that Elijah Richardson was playing Isaiah’s grandson Eli Bradley aka Patriot. It’s mentioned that Bucky and Bradley came to blows during the Korean War along with the horrible revelation that he was thrown into prison to rot for 30 years. Sam is horrified that nobody knew that Bradley existed and there are overtones that Isaiah being a black man played a role to the government keeping that a secret.

Walker and Battlestar are keen to work with Bucky and Sam but the two established characters seem to be reluctant to do so. At the end of the episode our two protagonists attempt to get more answers from Zemo, who is still locked-up. Something is going to happen because we’ve seen multiple set photos and footage Zemo out in the world.

I’ll be curious to see if Walker, Zemo, and The Power Broker are connected.

I also wouldn’t be shocked to see the Bradley family has a link to Erin Kellyman’s Karli.

‘Black Widow’ Officially Heads To Premier Access & Theaters On July 9th – ‘Shang-Chi’ Delayed To September 3rd

In an official post by Marvel Studios on Twitter, the studio announced that Black Widow is getting another delay to further in the summer. As it will take Shang-Chi & The Legend of The Ten Rings’ theatrical release spot on July 9th and will also be able to purchase on Disney+’s Premier Access for an extra fee.

They aren’t saying how much they’ll be charging for Black Widow, but the last couple of movies such as Mulan and Raya have cost $30. There is a possibility Disney+ might ask for even more than that given it’s a Marvel Studios project.

Marvel also announced on their website that Shang-Chi is moving to September 3rd but there isn’t word if Eternals will be moving from it’s spot on November 5th.

Additionally, Marvel Studios’ Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings has received a new release date, now arriving on September 3, 2021. Simu Liu stars as Shang-Chi, who must confront the past he thought he left behind when he is drawn into the web of the mysterious Ten Rings organization. The film’s cast also includes Tony Leung as Wenwu, Awkwafina as Shang-Chi’s friend Katy, and Michelle Yeoh as Jiang Nan. Additionally, Fala Chen, Meng’er Zhang, Florian Munteanu and Ronny Chieng appear in the upcoming movie, which is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton.

Below is a new Black Widow poster with the July release date on it.
