Christoph Waltz Joins Cast Of Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Frankenstein’ Movie Alongside Andrew Garfield, Mia Goth & Oscar Isaac

During a chat with Collider, filmmaker Guillermo del Toro‘s has revealed that two-time Best Supporting Actor Oscar winner Christoph Waltz has joined the cast of his upcoming retelling of the iconic sci-fi horror story, “Frankenstein.” Waltz is likely best known to audiences for working alongside director Quentin Tarantino in the period action films “Django Unchained” and “The Inglourious Basterds.” A film that del Toro says he’s been trying to make for 50 years but now believes he’s “crazy or brave” enough to attempt it now.

The actor joins a cast that already boasts talent such as Oscar Isaac (“Ex Machina”), Mia Goth (“Infinity Pool,” “Pearl”), and Andrew Garfield (“The Social Network”).

Frankenstein | Book by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley, Bernie Wrightson, Stephen King | Official Publisher Page | Simon & Schuster

You might remember that a while back when Universal was trying to resurrect the Universal Monsters franchise, an attempt was made by del Toro to get a new “Frankenstein” move off the ground there but ultimately that didn’t happen. Luckily, for the filmmaker since the story is from the Mary Shelley novel published back in 1818 and is in the public domain, he was free to try again at Netflix but would have to come up with his own Frankenstein design that doesn’t infringe the one copyrighted design by Universal Pictures.

There is now an assumption the design del Toro has landed on is from the late comic book artist Bernie Wrightson, who himself did illustrations for a version of the Frankenstein story (pictured in the above header image). His version of Dr. Frankenstein is the spitting image of Oscar Isaac, which could suggest that’s the role he’s been cast in. Wrightson also helped co-create DC Comics anti-hero “Swamp Thing,” a character that del Toro nearly put on the big screen in his incarnation of the “Dark Justice League” before he eventually moved on to other things.

Another tidbit about production was revealed too as they hope to get cameras rolling sometime in February, but likely will rely on the actors’ strike being resolved in the near future by the AMPTP offering/accepting a fair deal with the union.

Guillermo won an Oscar statue earlier this year for his other Netflix feature film, “Pinocchio.” And previously earned two other Oscars for “The Shape of Water” such as Best Picture and Best Director back in 2018, the filmmaker’s take on “The Creature From The Black Lagoon.”

Andrew Garfield Says ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Set Image Circulating Online Is Photoshop: “I’m Trying To Manage Expectations”

Coming off even more denials about appearing as Peter Parker in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Andrew Garfield is now claiming that the images making the rounds of him on some sort of set is actually “photoshop.”

Garfield appeared on The Tonight Show, when host Jimmy Fallon confronted him about the image of him and he admitted he’s seen it but it’s not real.

“I heard about it and I did see it, and it’s a photoshop. [Audience groans] I’m trying to manage expectations.”

Adding to previous denials of his involvement in the superhero pic.

He’s not the only actor pouring cold water on an appearance in the Spider-Man sequel, Charlie Cox recently said that pandemic travel restrictions and shooting his AMC+ series Kin made it impossible for him to film scenes in Atlanta.

“There was a fan on the Kin crew. I came to work one day, and the rumor had come out that I was filming in Atlanta, and he asked me like it was a sensible question, and I was like, ‘I’ve been here every day with you, on set’ but I think he was so hopeful that he still was like, ‘Is it true?’; I had to say to him, ‘How would it be true?”

“Even if I had a few days off, we’re in the middle of a pandemic. I’m not allowed to fly anywhere. What are you talking about?’ Did he think Captain America came to get me?”

I guess we’ll have to see if these denials are genuine or not this winter.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is still marked down for a December 17 release date.

SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME – For the first time in the cinematic history of Spider-Man, our friendly neighborhood hero is unmasked and no longer able to separate his normal life from the high-stakes of being a Super Hero. When he asks for help from Doctor Strange the stakes become even more dangerous, forcing him to discover what it truly means to be Spider-Man.

Andrew Garfield Denies ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Rumor In Two Different Interviews – “I Haven’t Received A Phone Call”

Coming off the heels of Tom Holland’s adamant denial earlier in the year that Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire wouldn’t be returning to the roles of Spidey in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Amazing Spider-Man and Amazing Spider-Man 2 actor Andrew Garfield has stepped-in himself to deny claims that he’ll be appearing in the Marvel Studios film during an interview for the Happy Sad Confused podcast.

GARFIELD: “I don’t have anything to ruin, bro! I have to quickly just cut you off. There’s nothing to ruin! I’m just like ‘Guys, guys, guys… I wish I could just speak to everyone and just like ‘I recommend that you chill.”

If that wasn’t enough, Andrew spoke with Entertainment Tonight doubling-down on his denial.

GARFIELD: “I feel like I’m in a game of Werewolf and I’m just saying, ‘I’m not the werewolf, I am not the werewolf. I promise you guys, I’m not the werewolf!’. Listen, what people are talking about is a really cool idea. And again, I haven’t received a phone call, but, you know…”

“It’s not something I’ve really thought about because I closed the book on it for myself and I haven’t had to think about it. So it’s not something that I’ve really considered. So, yeah, that’s my honest answer.”

It’s worth mentioning that while this rumor of multiple Peters has been circulated far-and-wide online, none of the trade outlets have supported this information and neither were spotted on set as production is about to come to a close. I guess we’ll just wait for the hat-trick of denials once Tobey has something to promote and is asked about his involvement too.

I’m sure this is confusing to fans with Jamie Foxx playing Electro again or Alfred Molina confirming his return as Doctor Octopus, but I guess we’ll have to take Holland and Garfield at their word for the time being.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is set for release on December 17, 2021.

Tom Holland Denies Rumors ‘Spider-Man 3’ Will Feature Tobey Maguire & Andrew Garfield – “They Will Not Be Appearing In This Film”

Despite rampart rumors for Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 that included unconfirmed rumblings that former Spider-Man actors Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield would be reprising their roles in a Spider-Verse-type event film, actor Tom Holland is denying that is happening.

In a recent interview with Esquire posted this week, the young actor while promoting his crime drama Cherry states that he’s unaware of Tobey and Andrew being involved with the project. The outlet noting the disappointment in his voice while delivering the bad news.

This particular Spider-Man installment has been subject to a host of rumors about casting decisions. When we talk in December, several outlets are reporting that Holland’s forebears, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, will appear alongside him in some kind of ultimate Spider-verse moment. When I ask Holland about this possibility, he is suddenly positive he knows what he’s talking about.

“No, no, they will not be appearing in this film. Unless they have hidden the most massive piece of information from me, which I think is too big of a secret for them to keep from me. But as of yet, no. It’ll be a continuation of the Spider-Man movies that we’ve been making.”

While Holland could be lying here, none of the trades who have been actively covering the casting of the Spider-Man sequel have corroborated the rumors of their involvement. Even unconfirmed rumblings they’ve been spotted on set, however, no photographic proof of that has materialized. Tom Holland would be the first person to tell you that he can’t keep a secret as his persona is that of someone who inadvertently spoils things.

Holland also said they’re about eight weeks into the production and still have much more to go.

What we do know about the film is that Benedict Cumberbatch will be appearing as Doctor Strange with former franchise actors Jamie Foxx and Alfred Molina reprising their roles as Spider-Man villains Electro and Doctor Octopus.

It’s possible we might end up with a version of The Sinister Six though.

Sony Pictures has given the film a release date of December 17th, 2021 but that might be moved if they need to find a new spot for Venom sequel Venom: Let There Be Carnage, as the studio might bump it’s July release to another date.

‘Spider-Man 3’: New Rumor Claims Andrew Garfield and Kirsten Dunst Are Returning Too

A new rumor from Collider makes the claim that both Andrew Garfield and Kirsten Dunst will be showing up in Marvel’s Spider-Man 3. Also they’re suggesting that Tobey Maguire and Emma Stone might be coming back as well, although, seemingly less confident they’re currently attached.

Just like Jamie Foxx’s Electro, Andrew Garfield will be back, and if Sony/Marvel can close a deal with Tobey Maguire, he’ll be back too. Kirsten Dunst will return as MJ, and I expect Emma Stone to reprise her role as Gwen Stacy, pregnancy permitting. Why? Because this third Spider-Man movie starring Tom Holland will delve into the multi-verse, just like its animated counterpart Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. I don’t think that’s a big secret at this point, so why do we pretend it is? Because we love the pageantry of it all.

However, the tone of the article is all over the place and I can’t really tell if this is actually sourced reporting or Collider simply echoing established online rumblings that have been circulating for months that Spider-Man 3 is expected to be some Spider-Verse/Multiverse combo along with the return of the aforementioned Spider-Man franchise actors. Possibly trying to make the connection from the confirmation that Alfred Molina is back as Doctor Octopus and Jamie Foxx as Electro.

The Multiverse theory is certainly one with teeth.

Benedict Cumberbatch is officially set to return as Doctor Strange in the Spider-Man sequel but the size of the crossover hasn’t been established since he’s filming Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness at the moment in Surrey, England with Sam Raimi (tackled the original Spider-Man trilogy) directing. Showing up in Spider-Man 3 would suggest that the Multiverse could be involved.

Spider-Man 3 is currently filming in Atlanta under the working title of The November Project and is set to be released on December 17th, 2021.
