Four Mystery Marvel Studios Movies Set For Release In 2024

Yesterday, Disney announced four new release dates for untitled Marvel Studios feature films in 2024. Those spots being etched-out for February, May, July, and November.

There are now seven release dates on the schedule for unnamed projects that will likely be named at the next big Marvel Studios presentation something that is likely around the corner.

However, we have an idea what at least four of those options might be with Jon Watts’ Fantastic Four reboot, Bassam Tariq’s Blade reboot, Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool 3, and Anthony Mackie’s Captain America 4 at various stages of development.

Below is a rundown of the current Marvel Studios schedule for films between 2021 to 2024.

We could easily theorize that some other options might include their X-Men reboot, Shang-Chi 2, Eternals 2, Black Widow 2 (focusing on Yelena Belova), Avengers 5, Secret Wars, Spider-Man 4 (if Sony and Disney can expand their deal), Black Panther 3, Ant-Man 4, Doctor Strange 3, Thor 5, and Young Avengers.

Some other projects I’d love to see be considered for the film side such as Squadron Supreme, Captain Carter, Black Knight, The Invaders, Nova, Adam Warlock, Alpha Flight, Agents of Atlas, Namor (if they’re able to make it), Ka-Zar, Killraven, and Red Wolf.

As mentioned above, we’re likely on the cusp of a new Marvel Studios presentation that will likely give us an idea of what else is coming to both Disney+ (Disney+ Day in November) and the big screen in the future.

‘The Matrix Resurrections’ Official Synopsis Hinting The Sequels Aren’t Canon & Young Morpheus Confirmed?

Yesterday, saw the release of the first trailer for Lana Wachowski’s The Matrix Resurrections with Keanu Reeves back as The One, Neo.

Interestingly enough, the film’s official synopsis suggests that the new film is only going by the previous events of The Matrix, not the two sequels. It was previously assumed that Resurrections would be a follow-up to The Matrix Revolutions, making many believe that Warner Bros. might be consider the previous films as taking place outside of canon.

The Matrix Resurrections is a continuation of the story established in the first MATRIX film. It reunites Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss as cinematic icons Neo & Trinity in an expansion of their story that ventures back into the Matrix and even deeper down the rabbit hole. A mind-bending new adventure with action and epic scale, it’s set in a familiar yet even more provocative world where reality is more subjective than ever and all that’s required to see the truth is to free your mind.

20 years after the first film, the franchise that helped define pop culture at the turn of the century is back for a continuation and extension of the original movie. The Matrix remains in the zeitgeist as a film that has changed the way we look at cinema and reality itself. With its game changing action and visual effects, The Matrix helped pave the way for films to follow.

Very interesting they’re not talking about the trilogy, only the original movie.

If true, this could mean that there were alternative events that took place between The Matrix and The Matrix Resurrections that are different from what happened in the previous two films. While this could be simple phrasing from the studio to potentially skirt the use of the films to promote the new one, since Reloaded and Revolutions aren’t as highly regarded as the original.

Clearly, certain things from the other films will carry over as seen in the trailer.

There is also the possibility that moving the story forward potentially needed to ignore the events of those films as well.

Another interesting thing is that actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II captioned on Instagram his image from the new trailer with “Morpheus,” suggesting that he is indeed playing a young version of the character in the film.

‘Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol.3’ Seemingly Adds ‘Foundation’ Cinematographer Tico Poulakakis

Guardians of The Galaxy Vol.3 is finally about to get in front of cameras after a massive production delay (James Gunn’s firing and rehiring by Disney) and there is new information that supports Chris Pratt’s previous quotes about the third installment starting production in November.

Recently, we pointed out that previous franchise cinematographers Ben Davis or Henry Branham were busy on other projects and might mean a new person might land the gig.

Someone has shared with us a listing from Production Weekly that names Canadian cinematographer Tico Poulakakis for the Marvel Studios sequel. His credits include Doctor Who, American Gods, Star Trek Discovery, Locke & Key, and the upcoming high-profile Isaac Asimov adaptation, Foundation.

However, we haven’t been able to confirm/authenticate Poulakakis’ involvement but Will Mavity on Twitter mentioned him for the project back in May (likely also from a previous Production Weekly listing as Mavity has posted grids before).

The listing also mentions a shoot that will take place from November 4, 2021 to May 2, 2022.

However, were previously able to confirm the film is indeed shooting in Atlanta (the United Kingdom is still expected as a location too), the visual effects supervisor will be Stephane Ceretti (Eternals, Guardians of The Galaxy, Doctor Strange, Ant-Man & The Wasp), and will have Hawkeye stunt coordinator Heidi Moneymaker crafting the film’s action sequences.

Beth Mickle (Drive), who recently worked with James Gunn on The Suicide Squad is seemingly still attached as Guardians of The Galaxy Vol.3’s production designer.

The returning cast is assumed to include Chris Pratt as Peter Quill aka Star-Lord, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Dave Bautista as Drax, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Pom Klementieff as Mantis, Sean Gunn as Kraglin, Bradley Cooper as the voice of Rocket Raccoon, and Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot. 

Dave Bautista has indicated that this third installment will be his final outing as Drax.

Hopefully, we’ll start learning the names of new cast members very soon as the fall production starts looms closer.

We’ll see the Guardians next in Thor: Love & Thunder, but there role in the film is said to be minimal.

Guardians of The Galaxy Vol.2 ended with a tease that Ayesha, Golden High Priestess of The Sovereign, is going to bring Adam Warlock into the sequel as his cocoon was shown. Gunn has since denied that Adam Warlock will be in the film among other rumors connected to the film including the casting of Star Wars actor Mark Hamill.

Back in 2017, Gunn told IGN that Adam Warlock would be part of the cosmic universe post-Infinity War/Endgame, while also dodging a confirmation of Warlock’s involvement in the third installment. We do know that Ayesha is coming back though.

A variant of Gamora from a different point of time in the MCU is also running around after the time-travel events of Avengers: Endgame.

Guardians of The Galaxy Vol.3 has a release date of May 5, 2023

Christopher Nolan Developing WWII Film About J. Robert Oppenheimer, Father Of The Atomic Bomb: Cillian Murphy May Star

A new report is giving us an idea of what the next film from Christopher Nolan will look like and seemingly confirms that he’s indeed looking to leave Warner Bros. for a new studio home or at least considering it.

Deadline has revealed that Nolan is currently shopping around a new World War II film project about J. Robert Oppenheimer’s development of the atomic bomb in the Manhattan Project. His work ultimately led to the surrender of the Japanese after two atomic bombs were unleashed upon the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki by the U.S. military, killing countless civilians in an instant and even more than that slowly/painfully over time.

They also allude that longtime Nolan muse Cillian Murphy (The Dark Knight Trilogy, Inception, Dunkirk) might be in the mix to play Oppenheimer. It doesn’t hurt that Murphy has a striking resemblance to him.

I’m extremely curious if Christopher Nolan will attempt to document the Pacific War and the Japanese side of the story along with the civilians that were essentially erased from the planet as part of power move by the United States to end the bloody South Pacific campaign with an extreme show of force. One of the darkest moments in human history.

You might remember that Christopher Nolan wasn’t terribly happy how Tenet was released during the pandemic in 2020 (conflicting trade reports blame both Warner Bros. and Nolan for that hiccup with various “sources” finger pointing to each other’s camp). However, when WarnerMedia announced their plans for a hybrid release for all 2021 releases to promote HBO Max, that seemed to be the final straw for the filmmmaker and signs that his longtime relationship with Warner Bros. has come to an end.

No studios are being brought-up in the article, but we have to assume that Nolan isn’t interested in a streaming platform or a deal that doesn’t include theatrical exclusivity for the film.

UPDATE: The Hollywood Reporter mentions that Universal Pictures, Sony Pictures, Paramount Pictures, and even Warner Bros. have been talking with Nolan’s camp about the untitled movie. Although, a frontrunner wasn’t named.

It’s really not that shocking that Christopher Nolan would attempt to explore this part of history, all you have to do is look at Nolan’s films The Dark Knight Rises and Tenet to understand the filmmaker’s obsession with nuclear armament.

‘Extraction 2’: Chris Hemsworth Getting Into Fighting Shape For Prague Shoot On Netflix Sequel After ‘Furiosa’ Delays

Netflix is looking like they caught a break and their Extraction sequel starring Thor actor Chris Hemsworth has jumped the line after prep on Furiosa paused nixing the planned summer shoot seemingly because of increased cases of COVID-19 there. Extraction 2 also brings back director Sam Hargrave and screenwriter Joe Russo.

Variety recently mentioned that filming on the Extraction 2 had been prepping in New South Wales, Australia the same Aussie state where Chris Hemsworth recently shot Marvel’s Thor: Love & Thunder and had been planning on shooting Furiosa over the summer.

However, due concerns of COVID-19 in the area filming on Extraction 2 has been reportedly moved to Europe in Prague, Czech Republic. There were previous rumblings from the Los Angeles Times that George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road prequel/sequel won’t begin shooting until 2022 and the report also mentions that pre-production on the prequel won’t begin until November/December alluding to the film indeed being delayed until 2022.

Hemsworth has posted an Instagram video of himself training for the upcoming action pic alongside his workout routine.

Hargrave has a background in stunts and was previously the second unit director on The Accountant, Atomic Blonde, Avengers: Endgame, and The Mandalorian. He’s expected to have directed at least one episode of The Book of Boba Fett.

Hemsworth will join Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch, The Northman, Last Night In Soho) and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (The Matrix Resurrections, Candyman, Aquaman, Aquaman & The Lost Kingdom) as the leads of Miller’s Mad Max prequel Furiosa. Filming was supposed to take place at Fox Studios Australia in Sydney, the same location used for both Shang-Chi & The Legend of The Ten Rings and Thor: Love & Thunder.

Director George Miller is no stranger to production delays, he originally came up with the idea for Mad Max: Fury Road back in 1987 and filming didn’t start up until 2012, two years after Tom Hardy secured the titular role and after multiple production hiccups going back to 2001.

‘Star Wars’ Actress Rosario Dawson Is The Latest Addition To Disney’s ‘Haunted Mansion’

Disney’s new Haunted Mansion movie is filling up roles with actors such as LaKeith Stanfield (Uncut Gems, Judas & The Black Messiah, Knives Out), Tiffany Haddish (The Card Counter), and Owen Wilson (The French Dispatch, Loki) joining the haunted-house pic.

Another name has been added to the call-sheet, according to Deadline.

Actress Rosario Dawson after recently wrapping on Clerks 3 has reportedly nabbed herself a role in the family-friendly horror film from director Justin Simien (Dear White People). Her credits include Sin City, The Mandalorian, Clerks II, Daredevil, Luke Cage, The Rundown, and the HBO Max comic book series DMZ.

Haunted Mansion is a film based on Disney’s beloved spooky theme park attraction similar to previous films Pirates of The Caribbean: The Curse of The Black Pearl, Jungle Cruise, and the unfortunate flop Tomorrowland.

She’s not new to the world of horror appearing in Zombieland: Double Tap and Quentin Tarantino’s unique slasher flick Death Proof.

It’s starting to sound like Dawson won’t be shooting her spinoff Star Wars show Ahsoka anytime soon given that Haunted Mansion begins filming next month in Atlanta, the cast is said to be an ensemble which could mean she’d have to be on set for a majority of the shoot alongside her co-stars. A potential start sometime in 2022 for Ahsoka is looking more realistic.

Speaking of Star Wars, Lucasfilm announced in late 2020 that Justin Simien would be behind a new Disney+ series focusing on Lando Calrissian, but we don’t have a clear picture when that Star Wars project is going begin shooting given that Simien will be busy with Haunted Mansion for the next year or so, and Donald Glover has his own projects coming out the wazoo.

THE HAUNTED MANSION – Workaholic real estate agent Jim Evers (Eddie Murphy) is accused by his wife, Sara (Marsha Thomason), of neglecting his son (Marc John Jefferies) and daughter (Aree Davis), so he takes the family on a vacation. Along the way, the family stops off at a sinister mansion that Jim has been asked to sell, only to discover it’s haunted by Master Gracey (Nathaniel Parker) ; his stern butler, Ramsley (Terence Stamp) ; and two other servants who need some help breaking a curse.

‘True Lies’ Series At CBS Replaces Arnold Schwarzenegger With Steve Howey: Anthony Hemingway To Direct Pilot

James Cameron’s True Lies is considered to be one of the highlights of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s action film career as it allowed him to play a government spy alongside a family man, although, the latter part was not really the focus of the film.

McG (Terminator: Salvation) had been trying to develop a sequel series at Disney+ with the hopes to have both Jamie Lee Curtis and Arnold Schwarzenegger reprising their roles, a good idea since Jamie’s profile had been recently amplified with the success of Knives Out and the Halloween soft-reboot.

However, things fell apart and Schwarzenegger went off to make a father-daughter spy series for Skydance/Netflix co-starring Monica Barbaro (Top Gun: Maverick) that certainly feels/sounds like a surrogate for the True Lies project that never came together.

Today, Variety reports that not only is a pilot moving forward at CBS for that True Lies series, but they’ve sadly replaced Arnold Schwarzenegger with television/character actor Steve Howey (Shameless) as the new Harry Tasker.

Who exactly is playing Helen Tasker has yet to be announced.

Matt Nix (Burn Notice) is writing the pilot with Anthony Hemingway (The Wire, Red Tails) directing. It sounds like CBS could turn the project into a generic mid-budget series that likely won’t be terribly exciting in any real way, but Hemingway directing is giving me a slight glimmer of hope.

Interestingly enough, True Lies is based on a French film La Totale! that was released back in 1991.

TRUE LIES – Secretly a spy but thought by his family to be a dull salesman, Harry Tasker (Arnold Schwarzenegger) is tracking down nuclear missiles in the possession of Islamic jihadist Aziz (Art Malik). Harry’s mission is complicated when he realizes his neglected wife, Helen (Jamie Lee Curtis), is contemplating an affair with Simon (Bill Paxton), a used-car salesman who claims he’s a spy. When Aziz kidnaps Harry and Helen, the secret agent must save the world and patch up his marriage at the same time.

Owen Wilson Nabs Key Role In Disney’s ‘Haunted Mansion’ Movie

Disney wants to stay in the Owen Wilson business after playing Mobius in the hit Marvel Studios series Loki, as he’s joined the cast for their upcoming new Haunted Mansion movie set to begin shooting this October in Atlanta.

The movie from writer/director Justin Simien (Dear White People), is another project based on a beloved theme park ride with the spooky Haunted Mansion being just as recognizable as Pirates of The Caribbean or Jungle Cruise.

Owen Wilson joins Oscar-nominated actor LaKeith Stanfield (Judas & The Black Messiah, Knives Out, Uncut Gems) and Tiffany Haddish, who were previously announced for lead roles.

This isn’t the first entry into the horror genre for Wilson after being part of the casts of The Haunting remake in 1999 and having a small supporting role in Jennifer Lopez’s Anaconda in 1997.

TRAILER: ‘The Matrix Resurrections’ Brings Neo Out Of Digital Hibernation For A New Adventure

Lana Wachowski is back to bring us a fourth Matrix film with The Matrix Resurrections and we’ll see the return of Keanu Reeves’ Neo alongside some other familiar faces and new ones as well.

Warner Bros. has dropped the first trailer for the new film after giving us some teases of footage on the film’s website, which is a neat marketing tool that really hasn’t been used with a mainstream movie in a very long time. I can’t really remember the last time people were actually drawn to a film’s website for marketing purposes outside of things like The Dark Knight.

There is a strong indication this is the first installment of a new Matrix trilogy.

‘Shang-Chi 2’: Director Destin Daniel Cretton & Screenwriter Dave Callaham Tease Unused Ideas Carrying Over To Sequel

*** WARNING SPOILERS AHEAD FOR SHANG-CHI AND POST-CREDIT SCENES***

Shang-Chi & The Legend of The Rings is a massive hit thanks to director Destin Daniel Cretton and screenwriter Dave Callaham, the two have been doing a bunch of interviews briefly commenting about the film’s post-credit scenes, which may or may not being lining up an idea for Shang-Chi 2.

I think folks have been more curious about Banner and Captain Marvel’s connection to the next installment, but the real tease presented was the lingering question of where did the Ten Rings come from?

We know that Shang-Chi’s father Xu Wenwu has had them for countless generations giving him longevity alongside other supernatural abilities.

Wong, Danvers, and Banner all seem to be stumped bringing in their opinions of the occult/magicial objects, world of science, and alien/cosmic side. In the comics, The Mandarin got his version of the rings from a spaceship alluding to their alien/cosmic origins, but Danvers doesn’t seem to be familiar with them.

While speaking with Entertainment Tonight, director Destin Daniel Cretton alludes to the rings’ origins nod in the post-credit scene potentially being similar to the comic books.

“Really? If you look into the comics, if you watch that end-credit sequence, it’s not– You don’t have to dig very deep to at least point yourself in a direction. (Laughs.) It’s definitely there.”

Screenwriter Dave Callaham went one step further during an interview with Inverse, revealing that they planned-out and shot two different origins for the Ten Rings, but ultimately decided making it more ambiguous in the final cut.

“There were scenes shot for the movie that suggested one origin. There were scenes shot later that suggested a different origin. We didn’t know which one we wanted to say it was.”

This is most likely is the comic book link Destin Daniel Cretton is talking about above and could suggest Fin Fang Foom might actually be showing up at some point.

As it stands, Marvel Studios hasn’t announced a sequel but it’s only a matter of time if they haven’t already started developing it. The first installment earned an impressive $94.4 million over the long weekend at the domestic box office and has been getting a solid reception from audiences/critics, a clear sign the studio will keep making sequels.
