‘Game Of Thrones’ Costume Designer Michele Clapton Confirmed For Amazon’s Cyberpunk Series ‘The Peripheral’; From Co-Creators Of HBO’s ‘Westworld’

Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan (Westworld) are producing a new Amazon series The Peripheral, an adaptation of the William Gibson cyberpunk novel with Chloe Grace Moretz (Kick-Ass, Shadow In The Cloud) and Irish actor Jack Reynor (Midsommar, Free Fire) set to play the show’s leads.

The William Gibson novel centers on Flynne (Grace Moretz) and her brother Burton (Reynor). Burton, a veteran of the United States Marine Corps’ elite Haptic Recon force, is hired for a security job which takes place in what he thinks is cyberspace. When Flynne temporarily takes his place, she witnesses something that might have been murder.

The Ronin can confirm the cyberpunk series has indeed added six-time Primetime Emmy-winner Michele Clapton to the production team as their costume designer, who previously worked on Seasons 1-8 of HBO’s Game of Thrones and The King’s Man directed by Matthew Vaughn.

We previously reported the show’s production designer will be Jan Reolfs (Ghost In The Shell, F9: The Fast Saga, 47 Ronin).

Production will take place around London with Vincenzo Natali set to direct the show’s pilot. Natali’s extensive credits include The Stand, Westworld, American Gods, The Strain, Lost In Space, Locke & Key, Luke Cage, Hannibal, Orphan Black, Splice, and Cube.

Gibson, alongside Philip K. Dick, is considered one of the fathers of the cyberpunk genre. Dick’s work, of course, inspired feature films such as Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner and Paul Verhoeven’s Total Recall. The Peripheral isn’t the only William Gibson adaptation in the works as we’ve previously reported that Luther creator Neil Cross is looking to turn his novel Pattern Recognition into a project as well and has yet to be officially announced.

Lisa Joy is making her feature film directorial debut with the Hugh Jackman and Rebecca Ferguson dystopian cyberpunk film Reminiscence, which will hit both theaters and HBO Max on August 20.

REMINISCENCE – Nick Bannister (Jackman), a private investigator of the mind, navigates the darkly alluring world of the past by helping his clients access lost memories. Living on the fringes of the sunken Miami coast, his life is forever changed when he takes on a new client, Mae (Ferguson). A simple matter of lost and found becomes a dangerous obsession. As Bannister fights to find the truth about Mae’s disappearance, he uncovers a violent conspiracy, and must ultimately answer the question: how far would you go to hold on to the ones you love?

EXCLUSIVE: Matthew Vaughn’s Next Feature Film Enlists ‘Tetris’ Production Designer Daniel Taylor & ‘Fantastic Beasts 3’ Cinematographer George Richmond

The Ronin can confirm that Matthew Vaughn as hired Tetris production designer Daniel Taylor for next feature film at MARV Films, which is going under the working tile Argyle (all MARV Films projects use working titles giving a nod to the tailoring/clothing trade).

Matthew Vaughn has been notably been involved with comic book adaptations such as X-Men: First Class, Kick-Ass, Kingsman 1-2, and the upcoming Kingsman origin flick The King’s Man.

Daniel Taylor joins a production team that already has cinematographer George Richmond (Fantastic Beasts 3) on the roster, who we previously confirmed for the new project. Richmond worked on Kingsman: The Secret Service, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, the Elton John biopic Rocketman, and the sports comedy Edddie The Eagle.

The pair recently worked with MARV Films biopic about the creation of the iconic video game Tetris, which stars British actor Taron Egerton (Kingsman 1-2, Rocketman, Eddie The Eagle).

A rumor from Giant Freaking Robot, suggests the film is a spy project. However, we cannot confirm those details or the potential casting information they are sharing in the report.

EXCLUSIVE: Director Matthew Vaughn’s Next Film Will Be ‘Argyle’ For MARV Films

The Ronin has learned that British director Matthew Vaughn’s next feature film is using the title Argyle and will be setup at his production company MARV Films. Sadly, details are scarce on the new movie but is expected to begin production before the end of the year. We have to assume filming will take place in the United Kingdom.

Vaughn’s directorial credits include the Daniel Craig gangster film Layer Cake, Stardust, Kick-Ass, X-Men: First Class, Kingsman: The Secret Service, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, and the upcoming prequel The King’s Man formerly known as Kingsman: The Great Game.

MARV is also behind films such as the sports comedy Eddie The Eagle, the Elton John film Rocketman, and they had a hand with the last Fantastic Four movie. The studio’s latest projects include a Christmas movie titled Silent Night starring Jojo Rabbit’s Roman Griffin Davis and Keira Knightley along with a Tetris biopic that stars Taron Egerton.

There have been plans in the works for a third Kingsman movie as MARV’s Zygi Kamasa has teased multiple projects set in the Kingsman universe are in the works such as a television series and seven more films.

In 2018, Vaughn told Empire Magazine he was planning on rebooting Kick-Ass and Hit-Girl.

At one time, Vaughn had been attached to studio projects such as the spy flick I Am Pilgrim for MGM Studios based on the Terry Hayes novel, a feature adaptation of Mark Millar’s Superior, and a new incarnation of swashbuckling sci-fi hero Flash Gordon for 20th Century Studios before he was replaced with Overlord’s Julius Avery.

Argyle will reunite Matthew Vaughn with cinematographer George Richmond, who has been working on the Warner Bros. Potterverse sequel Fantastic Beasts 3 and the upcoming sci-fi action comedy Free Guy starring Ryan Reynolds.

MARV productions tend to use tailoring terms (Matthew Vaughn has a soft-spot for Huntsman tailors of Savile Row) for working titles, so, it’s possible Argyle isn’t going to be the film’s final title.

After multiple release delays due to the pandemic, The King’s Man will hit theaters on December 22.

‘Kraven The Hunter’: Aaron Taylor-Johnson Nabs Titular Role In Sony’s ‘Spider-Man’ Spinoff Movie Directed By J.C. Chandor

Sony Pictures is developing a heap of Marvel movies set within their own Spider-Man cinematic universe with Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Morbius on the horizon. Another big project is one focused on Spidey villain Kraven The Hunter that was written by Art Marcum, Matt Holloway, and Richard Wenk with J.C. Chandor set to director.

Sony has found their Kraven, as The Wrap reports that British actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson has landed the titular role in the Marvel spinoff film. The actor isn’t new to comic book adaptations as he played Quicksilver in Avengers: Age of Ultron, took the lead role in the two Kick-Ass movies, and has a role in the Kingsman prequel The King’s Man. He most recently joined the cast of David Leitch’s Japanese-set action film Bullet Train that stars Oscar-winner Brad Pitt.

While many people are under the impression that the spinoffs could end up part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s clear that hiring Marvel’s Quicksilver actor is a sign that the two universes aren’t as connected as fans believed.

20th Century Hires Joe Cornish To Write/Direct A Feature Film Adaptation of Mark Millar’s ‘Starlight’

Finally, a new high-profile project has been announced at Disney’s 20th Century Studios.

Attack The Block’s Joe Cornish has been assigned to write and direct a feature film adaptation of Mark Millar’s comic book Starlight. The project seems to be influenced by sci-fi swashbucklers such as Flash Gordon, Buck Rogers, and John Carter.

The comic centers on a space hero who saved the universe 35 years ago but when he came back to Earth, no one believed his fantastic stories. He married, had kids and settled into old age, but then his old rocket ship shows up, and he is called back for one fantastic adventure.

It’s a little odd would attempt Starlight since 20th Century Studios has the rights to Flash Gordon with development on both animated and live-action movies over the last couple of years. Perhaps, the twist is appealing enough to purse this project alongside Flash?

Joe previously co-wrote the original Ant-Man script with Edgar Wright, the pair also worked on Steven Spielberg’s The Adventures of Tinin: The Secret of The Unicorn. He recently directed The Kid Who Would Be King and is set to helm the Lockwood series for Netflix.

Mark Millar is a comic book writer that is behind mature work such as Kingsman, Kick-Ass, Wanted, Empress, Superior, and Jupiter’s Legacy. The latter getting an upcoming Netflix series.

At one time, 20th Century Fox (pre-merger) was developing a film based on his Shazam!/Superman knock-off Superior with Matthew Vaughn (had been attached to direct a Flash Gordon remake). It’s unknown if the studio is going to move forward with that superhero project anytime soon.
