Taron Egerton Has Met With Marvel’s Kevin Feige For Mystery Project & Wants To Play Wolverine Succeeding Pal Hugh Jackman

Hugh Jackman’s tenure as Wolverine has had its ups and lows, thankfully, the Aussie actor got to give his beloved X-Men anti-hero a perfect send-off with James Mangold’s Logan and has since retired the role leaving the stage for the next actor to pick up the claws. Jackman once gave his support to a pre-Venom Tom Hardy to play the next Wolverine, but it looks like someone closer to him might end up landing the role.

His Eddie The Eagle co-star Taron Egerton has been a fan favorite to be recast as the Canadian X-Men member and has previously brushed off casting rumors over the last couple of years. However, during a recent interview with The New York Times, he revealed a mystery meeting with Marvel’s Kevin Feige but wasn’t clear what it was for (outlets making the leap it was about Wolverine without the actor naming role/project).

Separately, at the same time, Egerton said it would be a challenge but is game to succeed his friend as the next actor to play Wolverine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“I don’t think it would be wrong to say that,” Egerton said of taking on the Wolverine reboot. “I’d be excited, but I’d be apprehensive as well because Hugh is so associated with the role that I’d wonder if it’d be very difficult for someone else to do it.” He paused, then flashed a grin. “But hopefully, if it does come around, they’ll give me a shot.”

Wolverine is a huge crossover character and also had his own film trilogy, which means whoever ends up playing him might be signing on for multiple films and television series on Disney+ meaning their commitment might have to be similar to Ms. Marvel actress Iman Vellani, who has her own series (expected to get a Season 2 announcement soon) but also has a major role in The Marvels.

While Deadpool 3 is expected to be the first big mutant project post-merger with Shawn Levy set to direct the R-rated film with Ryan Reynolds carrying over as Wade Wilson, the plans for the X-Men reboot haven’t been fully revealed by the studio and likely won’t happen before 2025.  There is some hope Marvel will reveal their X-Men plans at Comic-Con or at D23 Expo.

‘Kingsman’: Matthew Vaughn Is Plotting Seven More Films Alongside A Television Series According To Marv

Kingsman is one of the many film franchises that Disney inherited when they bought 21st Century Fox. The big news coming from Marv Group CEO Zygi Kamasa at the UK Finance Summit from last week via Deadline is that Matthew Vaughn is plotting “something like seven more Kingsman films” as Marv Films hopes to make more projects as part of their expansion plans.

KASAMA: “We have a Kingsman TV series in the works and there are two-three other franchises that are being developed alongside the Kingsman world.”

A prequel film titled The King’s Man is completed with a release date for February 12th, 2021.

It’s cast consists of Ralph Fiennes as The Duke of Oxford, Harris Dickinson as Conrad, Gemma Arterton as Polly, Djimon Hounsou as Shola, Charles Dance as Arthur, Daniel Bruhl, Stanley Tucci, Matthew Goode as Tristan, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Tom Hollander, and Rhys Ifans as Rasputin.

Kingsman 3 is also in development stages with Taron Egerton and Colin Firth set to return. Matthew Vaughn had recently suggested to Empire Magazine he wanted to direct the third installment after there had been talk of someone else taking over directing duties.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle introduced an American branch called The Statesman, which could also get their own films.

Jon S. Baird Confirmed To Direct ‘Tetris’ Drama For Marv Films – Working Title Is ‘Falling Blocks’

There had been mystery surrounding what Marv Films project director Jon S. Baird (Filth, Stan & Ollie) had been attached to direct after trade reports linked to an unknown project. In July it was reported by the Daily Mail that Jon would be directing a live-action Tetris movie with British actor Taron Egerton (Kingsman 1-2, Eddie The Eagle, Rocketman) set to play video game entrepreneur Henk Rogers.

The Ronin can now confirm the Daily Mail’s reporting that Baird is indeed attached to direct with Matthew Vaughn producing and add that film and could begin shooting this fall/winter in the United Kingdom under the working title of Falling Blocks.

This version seems to be heading more in the period drama direction as it’ll take place in the 1980s during The Cold War.

Russian video game developer Alexey Pajitnov created the hit Tetris, which was popularized by the Nintendo Gameboy but was embroiled in a legal battle to secure the intellectual rights.

Taron had been previously in talks to take the leading role of Seymour in the remake of genre musical Little Shop of Horrors for Warner Bros. and director Greg Berlanti. I’m not sure what this means for Taron’s involvement with Little Shop of Horrors, which had landed tax incentives to shoot in the state of California.

Tetris aka Falling Blocks could end up landing a release date sometime in 2021.

Matthew Vaughn Considers Directing ‘Kingman 3’ Himself Over Someone Else and Says ‘The King’s Man’ Plants Seeds For Third Movie

In a new interview with Empire, co-writer/director Matthew Vaughn suggests he is now considering directing Kingsman 3 himself. There had been chatter a while back that they were courting Scottish director Jon S. Baird (Filth) before these new comments from Vaughn that he might end up tackling it.

After initially planning to hand the third Harry Hart-Eggsy adventure off to another director, Vaughn is now considering helming that next instalment himself.

VAUGHN: “I actually don’t know what I want to do,” he says. “There is an opportunity for a director to really change it up, but I’m considering it.”

Matthew reveals what we’ve all assumed that The King’s Man will help set up Kingsman 3

VAUGHN: “We’ve put seeds for what’s going to happen in Kingsman 3 all the way back into this,” confirms Vaughn. “And it’s going to be very different.”

At one point, we theorized that the villainous Shepherd in The King’s Man could be related to Eggsy and lead to himself learning about a very despicable family tree.

Vaughn also confirms that he had to cut 40 minutes from The King’s Man and teases a director’s cut with the extra footage that could come together in the future with an extended cut.

However, Matthew’s tidbit about directing Kingsman 3 doesn’t sound like it has been cemented and Baird could very well end up still doing it. His work on the James McAvoy film Filth would suggest he could be an excellent successor.

Colin Firth and Targon Egerton are attached to reprise their roles for the third untitled film.

20th Century Studios and Disney still has The King’s Man set to release on September 18th but things could change due to the pandemic.
