Donnie Yen Would Consider Reprising ‘Star Wars’ Role If Asked & Having The “Best Experience” Making ‘John Wick 4’

Donnie Yen has been getting a bit of love from Hollywood recently with roles in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Mulan, and is currently shooting John Wick 4 in Berlin.

While speaking with Looper to promote his new action pic, Raging Fire, the Hong Kong actor was asked if he’d be willing to reprising his Star Wars role of Chirrut Îmwe.

“Well, I would definitely consider it. I had a great time shooting ‘Rogue One,’ and I guess people like my character. It really depends, you don’t know what they’re thinking. I leave it up to Disney to sort it out. We’ll see. I believe in destiny. “

With shows like Star Wars: Andor, a prequel to Rogue One, there are certainly possibilities of Lucasfilm eventually bringing back Chirrut.

He also explained how producer Basil Iwanyk courted him for the John Wick franchise and says shooting the fourth film has been his “best experience” working on it, as one of the few American productions he’s been involved with

I’m having a wonderful time here. Keanu Reeves is a wonderful soul, gentleman, best guy I’ve ever worked with, just a great guy, same as Chad. This so far has been the best experience in the very few American movies I have ever been. And you will not be disappointed with the film, you will be wowed by the film.

“They were really passionate about wanting me to be in the film, and we had multiple discussions of my role, and where I’d like to take this role. And we totally, we synced, and we were on the same page. That’s what happened, and there I am.”

John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum ended with John Wick surviving the fall from the roof of The Continental hotel after Ian McShane’s Winston shot him. Winston’s motivations weren’t entirely clear as he didn’t seem shocked that Mr. Wick got away and could be giving The High Table a false sense of security. Wick eventually lands at the feet of Laurence Fishburne’s Bowery King, who had his organization taken away from him by The High Table and convinces John to go to war with him against the mysterious group of criminal syndicate puppet masters.

The cast also includes Ian McShane as Winston, Lance Reddick as Charon and Laurence Fishburne back as the Bowery King, Hiroyuki Sanada as Watanabe, Clancy Brown (Highlander), British martial artist Scott Adkins (The Expendables 2, Doctor Strange), Marko Zaror (Machete Kills, Alita: Battle Angel), Atomic Blonde’s Bill Skarsgard, Stowaway’s Shamier Anderson, and the film’s female lead played by Japanese-British singer Rina Sawayama.

John Wick 4 is set for release on May 27, 2022.

‘Rogue One’s Donnie Yen To Lead South Boston Action Flick ‘The Father’ – Alec Baldwin and Frank Grillo Will Also Star

News coming of the Toronto International Film Festival via Deadline that martial arts star Donnie Yen (Mulan, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) will lead a new Boston-set action flick titled The Father from director Tommy Wirkola with production aiming to begin in early 2021.

Joining Yen in the film said to be an homage to action films of the 1980s will be Alec Baldwin (The Departed, Mission: Impossible – Fallout) and Frank Grillo (Captain America: The Winter Soldier).

The Father was written by Cut Throat City screenwriter P.G. Cuschieri.

Described as an ode to the revered action movies of the 1980s, The Father is set against the Irish-American gangland of South Boston and charts the struggle of middle-class Hong Kong immigrant John Chung (Yen) making the best of his family’s new American life while working as a modest fish broker in the city’s infamous docklands. When his wayward teenage boys stumble upon four kilos of heroin, they’re hunted by a local crime ring and a group of corrupt cops. Also starring are Alec Baldwin and Frank Grillo.

Arthur Sarkissian (Rush Hour), Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee of Thunder Road (John Wick), John Schramm and Yen will produce from a script by P.G. Cuschieri to be directed by Tommy Wirkola (Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters).

Yen has been mostly known for his Ip Man franchise but has shown up in various Hollywood films such as Guillermo del Toro’s Blade II, Shanghai Knights, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, xXx: The Return of Xander Cage, and most recently with Disney’s live-action remake of Mulan.

Norwegian director Tommy Wirkola is known for his genre hybrid films Dead Snow and Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters.

Jared Leto Confirms Lead Role In Disney’s ‘Tron 3’ aka ‘Tron: Ares’ – ‘Mulan’ Actress Liu Yifei Being Eyed?

Yesterday, we learned from Deadline that Lion director Garth Davis has been hired by Disney to direct their third Tron film with Jared Leto attached to star.

The outlet was quick to point out they’re still only in development stages.

Leto took to Twitter to confirm his involvement seemingly announcing that the film’s title is indeed Tron: Ares, before deleting the post and replacing it with another one without mentioning Ares

Also, Daniel Richtman got his hands on a casting grid for the film confirming the title Leto posted and mentions that Disney is interested in casting Mulan actress Liu Yifei in the lead female role. This doesn’t mean the actress is a lock but is a good sign they want to hire an Asian actress opposite Jared in the new film.

What doesn’t seem to be clear is if the film will be a direct sequel to Tron: Legacy or a soft-reboot as they don’t seem to be interested in having actors return such as Garrett Hedlund, Olivia Wilde, and Cillian Murphy as they haven’t been mentioned since Leto’s involvement in 2017.

However, composers Daft Punk are being courted by Disney for a return after tackling the score for Legacy.

TRON: LEGACY – Sam (Garrett Hedlund), the son of famous video-game developer Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges), has been haunted for a long time by his father’s mysterious disappearance. A strange signal draws Sam to Flynn’s Arcade, and he is pulled into the same cyberworld in which his father, its creator, has been trapped for 20 years. With fearless warrior Quorra (Olivia Wilde), Kevin and Sam seek to escape from a universe that, while magnificent, is far more advanced and dangerous than Kevin had ever imagined.
