Robert Pattinson To Reunite With Christopher Nolan For Mystery Film Joining Matt Damon & Tom Holland

Robert Pattinson Reuniting With Christopher Nolan For Mystery Film Joining Matt Damon & Tom Holland

Director Christopher Nolan isn’t taking much of a rest after the massive success of “Oppenheimer” as he’s rounding out the cast for his next feature film at Universal and has landed another high-profile actor the filmmaker has worked with before.

Daniel Richtman revealed on his Patreon page that British actor Robert Pattinson (“The Batman”) would be reuniting with Nolan for the pic, and Deadline is backing up the claim with the actor set to play a character alongside Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, and Lupita Nyong’o.

Pattinson previously worked with Nolan on the sci-fi spy flick “Tenet,” which was at the center of the director’s public frustration with Warner Bros., leading to the severing of his professional relationship with the studio and why he moved on to working with Universal Pictures for the Oscar-winning biopic “Oppenheimer.” From what we understand, Universal is hoping to become the homestead for Nolan and is willing to bankroll movies beyond this next one.

The mystery project already has a prime summer spot on Universal’s July 17, 2026 release slate.

We’re still in the dark about the film’s plot and who these actors will be playing within it. Trade reporters have dismissed the small group of various rumors concerning the plot, including some bonkers theories about vampires. Fans of Nolan are accustomed to his mystery-box element leading up to production, although we likely won’t have to wait too much longer before more concrete details.

Not unlike Holland getting ready to shoot “Spider-Man 4” this summer after wrapping on the Nolan, Pattison is also expected to shoot his own blockbuster superhero sequel later next year with Matt Reeves returning to co-write/direct “The Batman Part II” for a release on October 2, 2026. Colin Farrell recently confirmed he’ll be returning to shoot scenes as Gotham gangster Oz Cobb for the sequel after “The Penguin” spinoff series became a hit on HBO/Max. There is an expectation that Zoe Kravitz, Jeffrey Wright, and Andy Serkis will also be reprising their respective roles as well.

Tom Holland Eyed For Lead Role In Christopher Nolan's Mystery Film Shooting Early Next Year

Tom Holland Eyed For Lead Role In Christopher Nolan’s Mystery Film Shooting Early Next Year

While British actor Tom Holland recently took a sabbatical from feature film work to do a run of “Romeo & Juliet” on stage, he’s filling up his dance card nicely. His next big project looks to be finally connecting with Christopher Nolan, who is making an untitled mystery film at Universal Pictures that had Matt Damon (“Oppenheimer”) expected to star. A new report from Deadline says that Holland is also circling a lead part in the project and is reportedly aiming to begin “shooting in early 2025.”

The next Nolan pic has already landed a July 17, 2026, release date from Univeral ahead of the film’s production start.

The Hollywood Reporter also reveals that delays on “Spider-Man 4” are potentially the reason why Denis Villeneuve‘s “Dune Messiah” isn’t likely to shoot until 2026, backing up recent comments made by the director. Zendaya, of course, is expected to have major roles in both blockbusters. This all would suggest that the fourth installment won’t be hitting an early 2025 production start after there had been some rumblings online about a push into the summer.

It’s still yet to be confirmed if Holland is even going to be participating in “Avengers: Doomsday” or “Avengers: Secret Wars,” let alone the scale of his role in the massive two-part superhero ensemble event film. More realistic for Holland to have simply the same scale role he had in the two previous “Avengers” installments, and it’s lucky on the part of Marvel Studios that all three MCU movies will be shot in proximity of each other in the United Kingdom, making shooting scenes between projects much more logistical for the actor.

Christopher Nolan Looking To Reunite With Matt Damon For Untitled Mystery Film At Universal Releasing July 17, 2026

Christopher Nolan Looking To Reunite With Matt Damon For Untitled Mystery Film At Universal Releasing July 17, 2026

Filmmaker Christopher Nolan is still riding high from his massively successful atomic bomb drama Oppenheimer, and we now have some idea of what his next feature film will be and when we’ll see it on the big screen. Deadline reports that Nolan will be re-teaming with Universal Pictures (after severing his longtime relationship with Warner Bros.) for yet another feature film that Matt Damon (“Oppenheimer”) is reportedly eyeing a lead role.

Not only that, but it already has a planned release date of July 17, 2026, which would likely mean Universal has greenlit the film and is now feet-first into the casting/pre-production stages.

Filming is expected to begin in early 2025, which, of course, means that we’ll likely receive a lot of casting news and more details in the coming weeks and months.

“Oppenheimer” not only won seven Academy Awards (for Best Original Score, Best Editing, Best Supporting Actor, Best Actor, Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Cinematography) in 2024 but gave Universal a huge box office earner that summer with the R-rated drama amassing an impressive $975.5 million at the global box office. It got a major boost via the organic online theatrical marketing campaign Barbenheimer that attempted to get audiences to see both “Oppenheimer” and “Barbie” as they opened the same weekend, but both became two of the biggest films of 2023.

The partnership between Nolan and Universal is seemingly going to be cemented here, and we shouldn’t be all that shocked if this ends up being the director’s new homestead studio for the foreseeable future.

Universal In Talks With Director Edward Berger For Next ‘Jason Bourne’ Film, Matt Damon’s Return Not Secured

It’s been a good chunk of time since we’ve seen a “Jason Bourne” installment and a report from Deadline mentions that Universal Pictures is gearing up to develop a new installment with a fifth untitled movie. Not just that, but they’re currently in negotiations with filmmaker Edward Berger, who recently got on everyone’s radar after his acclaimed Oscar-winning film “All Quiet On The Western Front” made quite the splash and earned a statue for Best International Feature Film earlier this year at the Academy Awards. If a deal is reached, Berger would be tasked to both develop and direct the action film.

The main covet about the next installment is that Universal hasn’t secured franchise star Matt Damon and his participation would hinge on a “great script and story.” Worth remembering the Jeremy Renner-led spinoff film “Bourne Legacy” didn’t reignite the property and the studio would eventually pivot back to Damon for the 2016 installment. I would assume the studio has already learned its lesson trying to replace Damon/Bourne and will likely wait until the star accepts the creative vision before agreeing to a return.

Bourne is a CIA assassin who is dealing with amnesia alongside a cat-and-mouse game with his former handlers looking to terminate him before disastrous secret government programs used to eliminate American enemies can be made public. The films were adapted from the popular Robert Ludlum books and the first installment was helmed by Doug Liman.

Oscar-winning actress Alicia Vikander (“Tomb Raider”) was a new addition to the franchise in the 2016 film and likely would be offered the chance to return as Heather Lee. The character was the head of the CIA Cyber Ops Division.

Given that this is so early in the development process, we shouldn’t expect that filming on this sixth installment will happen anytime soon.

‘Oppenheimer’: Matt Damon & Robert Downey Jr. Are Joining Christopher Nolan’s Atomic Bomb Movie

Christopher Nolan is returning to World War II after tackling Dunkirk, with a new biopic that will focus on J. Robert Oppenheimer that helped create the atomic bomb for the United States military.

J. Robert Oppenheimer’s development of the atomic bomb in the Manhattan Project ultimately led to the surrender of the Japanese after two atomic bombs were unleashed upon the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki by the U.S. military, killing countless civilians in an instant and even more than that slowly/painfully over time.

Cillian Murphy and Emily Blunt have previously taken key roles on the project and two other actors have reportedly joined.

Deadline reveals that Matt Damon and Robert Downey Jr. are in talks to take unnamed roles. Damon previously worked with Nolan on the sci-fi drama Interstellar.

Cameras are expected to roll in early 2022. Universal Pictures won a bidding war to secure Oppenheimer after Christopher Nolan decided to part ways with Warner Bros. and the pic has an exclusive theatrical release window. It debuts on July 21, 2023.

It’ll be interesting to see if Christopher Nolan will attempt to document the Pacific War and the Japanese side of the story along with the civilians that were essentially erased from the planet as part of a power move by the United States to end the bloody South Pacific campaign with an extreme show of force before having to invade the mainland of Japan. It was one of the darkest moments in human history.

Cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema will reunite with Nolan after working on, Interstellar, Dunkirk, and Tenet along with Oscar-winning Swedish composer Ludwig Göransson (Tenet, Black Panther, The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever) joining the film too.

Neill Blomkamp Still Wants To Make More ‘Elysium’ Movies: Will He Make His Kruger Spinoff?

Neill Blomkamp is back to making movies after a hiatus after multiple projects not coming together (Alien 5, RoboCop Returns, Greenland), focusing on his Oats Studios shorts, and attempting to put together a new original project, Inferno.

The filmmaker is currently developing District 10, a sequel to his debut film District 9. That isn’t the only sci-fi project he wants to return to explore. While promoting his new movie Demonic, he spoke with The Playlist on their podcast and briefly voiced his desire to return to the world of Elysium.

“I would love to do more films in the world of Elysium. I love the setup of that world. The world that it puts forward is very interesting to me.”

ELYSIUM – In the year 2154, humanity is sharply divided between two classes of people: The ultrarich live aboard a luxurious space station called Elysium, and the rest live a hardscrabble existence in Earth’s ruins. His life hanging in the balance, a man named Max (Matt Damon) agrees to undertake a dangerous mission that could bring equality to the population, but Secretary Delacourt (Jodie Foster) vows to preserve the pampered lifestyle of Elysium’s citizens, no matter what the cost.

We already have idea what he’d like to tackle in follow-up.

In 2016, Neill Blomkamp mentioned to Empire the idea of revisiting the Agent Kruger character in a low-budget spinoff, a violent mercenary (played by District 9’s Sharlto Copley) that is hired to do the dirty work for Elysium. He eventually turned into main antagonist of the original film once Jodie Foster’s character was killed-off.

“I did ask [Media Rights Capital?] who paid for Elysium, I was like ‘what if you did a lower budget of this where Kruger is the lead character and is absolutely non-arc, don’t expect the character to to arc, he just doesn’t, he just does a bunch of shit that’s awesome’ and he was like ‘that does sound like that could be cool.'”

It’ll be interesting to see if he’ll tackle a Kruger-focused prequel or a direct sequel.

‘Thor: Love & Thunder’ Set Photos Confirm The Loki Play Has Returned & Melissa McCarthy Spotted In Hela Costume

Filming has been underway on Thor: Love & Thunder in Sydney, Australia and some new set photos posted by the Daily Mail released confirmed that the Loki play is coming back with Melissa McCarthy taking a new part.

You can see in the set photos that Melissa McCarthy is in Cate Blanchett’s Hela costume along with the return of Matt Damon’s Loki and Luke Hemsworth’s Thor. This would suggest that Damon’s return was indeed to reprise this Asgardian actor character from Thor: Ragnarok and could mean that McCarthy is also playing another Asgardian.

New Asgard is expected to be a tourist location on Earth as revealed in concept art shown last year by director Taika Waititi during an Instagram stream. Which could explain the return of the play despite the destruction of Asgard.

Multiple Guardians of The Galaxy actors were also spotted on set previously.

Idris Elba Reprising Heimdall Role For ‘Thor: Love & Thunder’? – Spotted With Chris Hemsworth & Matt Damon In Australia

Actor Idris Elba is currently in Australia shooting the George Miller film Three Thousand Years of Longing and given the proximity to Marvel’s Thor: Love & Thunder production there is some speculation he could end up reprising the Heimdall role.

There is a potential hint that could end up happening.

A new Instagram photo posted by Chris Hemsworth over the weekend on from an 1980s birthday party features himself with Matt Damon and Elba.

You might be asking why would Heimdall be coming back? He was killed-off in Avengers: Infinity War. True, but there are teases from the Loki trailer Elba might have shot a cameo for that Disney+ series (Loki mentions Heimdall by name) alongside Jaimie Alexander’s Lady Sif (also expected for Love & Thunder). There are a few ways to have Heimdall come back, The Multiverse and flashbacks being the most reasonable options.

Oscar-winner Christian Bale was confirmed by Marvel Studios in December as playing the film’s alien villain Gorr The God Butcher.

Filming has been underway since last month at Fox Studios Australia in Sydney with multiple Guardians of The Galaxy actors spotted on the set.

However, unlike other actors we know that Idris is specifically there for another movie production and his presence in Australia doesn’t automatically mean he’ll end up in the film. There is just an extremely good chance that it happens.

First Set Photos From ‘Thor: Love & Thunder’ Reveal Kraglin Has Joined The Guardians – Plus Looks At Nebula & Star-Lord

As filming on Marvel’s Thor: Love & Thunder has officially kicked-off in Sydney, Australia last week. The first real-deal set photos featuring cast members have finally arrived online via The Daily Mail.

The images can be seen by clicking the source link at the bottom of the page.

These set photos include first looks at Chris Hemsworth’s Thor (minus fat suit), Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord, Karen Gillan’s Nebula, and Sean Gunn’s Kraglin is wearing a Guardians patch suggesting he’s joined the team alongside Thor for some sort of adventure. Kraglin also seems to have Yondu’s arrow technology as well which should make him a bit more of an asset than in previous films.

Filming is taking place during Australia’s summer which is why you’ll see many cast members are holding fans, something we often see on these Aussie sets. The scene seems to be focused mainly on Thor’s involvement with the Guardians of The Galaxy as he joined them at the end of Avengers: Endgame leaving Earth and New Asgard behind.

A full casting roster has yet to be announced by Marvel Studios but it looks like it will include Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Natalie Portman as Lady Thor aka Jane Foster, Tessa Thompson as King Valkyrie, Chris Pratt as Star-Lord aka Peter Quill, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Christian Bale as Gorr The God Butcher, Dave Bautista as Drax The Destroyer, Jaimie Alexander as Lady Sif, Sean Gunn as Rocket/Kraglin, Taika Waititi in a bigger role as Korg, and Matt Damon is playing an undisclosed character too.

There is a really good chance given the involvement of The Guardians, that the new Thor movie could help establish the events of James Gunn’s Guardians of The Galaxy 3.

Thor: Love & Thunder is currently set to be released on May 6th, 2022 but I wouldn’t get too attached to that date as there might be more shifts from Disney adjusting their 2021-2022 theatrical schedules.
