Margot Robbie Comments On Involvement With Disney’s ‘Pirates of The Caribbean’ Franchise – “We’re Really Excited About The Prospect”

I first reported back in August 2018 that Disney was looking to kick the tires of the Pirates franchise for a sixth untitled installment which could possibly move away from Johnny Depp’s Jack Sparrow. Disney then hired a handful of screenwriters to tackle Pirates of The Caribbean 6 which was said to be a reboot. Most recently writers Ted Elliott and Craig Mazin (Chernobyl, The Last of Us) had been hired by the studio to work on the project’s script.

Over the summer it was reported by The Hollywood Reporter that Aussie actress Margot Robbie and her Birds of Prey screenwriter Christina Hodson might be reuniting for a second Pirates project that would see Robbie attached for the lead role.

This week Margot Robbie (The Suicide Squad, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood) is making the press rounds to promote her upcoming film Dreamland and while speaking with Josh Horowitz on his podcast Happy Sad Confused revealed Pirates of The Caribbean: The Curse of The Black Pearl is one of her comfort films along with a brief comment on the report she is being considered for a role in a new movie from Disney.

HOROWITZ: There is talk you may be involved with a future Pirates film…

ROBBIE: “Wait and see. Early days, early days, I shan’t say anymore.”

Margot also revealed to Collider that she will not be producing the film and that while development seems to be happening at the moment, it doesn’t sound like a done deal at Disney.

ROBBIE: “A lot of girl power. No, it’s too early to talk about it…I’m not a producer on Pirates so I’ll sit back and wait for the process…I don’t have to stress about it. But no, we’re really excited about the prospect of adding, obviously, a very key female element to that world.”

If you’re not familiar with updates at theme parks concerning Pirates of The Caribbean they’ve revamped the character Redd, who is now a female pirate at the park. Redd is not only part of the ride but also had her own park character as well. She seems like a strong contender for the role that Disney is looking place Robbie in.

Johnny Depp was recently forcibly removed from the Fantastic Beasts franchise by Warner Bros. and could possibly be replaced with Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen (Casino Royale, Hannibal, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story). There has been expectations that Johnny will not reprise the iconic pirate in either of these two projects but hasn’t been made official.

Margot Robbie Is Curious To See The Ayer Cut of ‘Suicide Squad’

On the heels of Zack Snyder’s Justice League coming to HBO Max as an extended miniseries there have been multiple calls from fans for Warner Bros. to release the original cut of David Ayer’s Suicide Squad. The director has confirmed there was plenty of tinkering and many scenes removed from the theatrical cut.

Harley Quinn actress Margot Robbie has now revealed on The Happy Sad Confused podcast that while she never saw this cut of the film she would like to.

ROBBIE: “I never saw the Ayer Cut. I know we shot a lot of stuff that didn’t make it into the movie. I would be very curious myself.”

Earlier this month, David Ayer took to Twitter to debunk a rumor that the Ayer Cut was coming to HBO Max replying with “not true”. There really hasn’t been any official signs that it is coming anytime soon.

Robbie has since moved on as Harley Quinn with Cathy Yan’s Birds of Prey and James Gunn’s The Suicide Sqaud set to be released on August 6th, 2021. It’s possible we could see more of her as the character that’s if Harley survives the Suicide Squad sequel.

Sly Stallone Officially Joins James Gunn’s ‘The Suicide Squad’ In Mystery Role

Today, Sly Stallone has announced via Instagram that he’ll be part of the cast of James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad in an undisclosed role. Which could be voice work for a CGI character like King Shark, villain Starro is another option, or possibly he’s just doing some ADR for whatever the cameo is.

STALLONE: “I’m on my way to do a little work with a great director, James Gunn, on Suicide Squad 2 and I think it’s going to be a spectacular effort. I saw it and it’s unbelievable so I’m very proud to be included but I can’t tell you anything more about it because you’ll have to wait and see but it will be well worth the wait.”

Stallone last weekend wrapped on his superhero film Samaritan in Atlanta and his statement here would suggest that he’s only just joined the film after watching it which could suggest he’s recording some post/voice work for the film. It’s worth mentioning that James Gunn is currently in Canada quarantining and would suggest Sly will be interacting with the director via Zoom/Skype further supporting the idea it’s voice recording.

This news shouldn’t be confused with the Peacemaker series aka Scriptures that doesn’t begin to shoot until January of next year in Vancouver.

The Suicide Squad is set to be released on August 6th, 2021 barring any studio hiccups.

‘The Suicide Squad’ Tasked To Destroy A Nazi-Era Prison Lab Called Jotunheim and James Gunn Had Carte Blanche To Kill-Off Characters

We won’t get to watch James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad until next August month but there are some new details about the film coming out.

James Gunn took to Twitter to reveal that Warner Bros. allowed him to kill any of the characters he wanted after a fan suggested that certain characters and high-profile actors were safe because of their usefulness in future films.

GUNN: “No character was protected by DC. They gave me carte blanche to do what I wanted. That was one of the things we agreed to before I came to work for them. I wasn’t looking for shock value but I wanted the audience to know anything could happen.”

The Direct also caught-wind of a Reddit post from someone with an early copy of the latest issue of Empire Magazine where producer Peter Safran reveals that the Latin American location in footage will be the fictional island nation of Corto Maltese and happens to be the home of a Nazi facility called Jotunheim where experiments took place on prisoners. These excerpts have circulating at other sites.

SAFRAN: “There they have to destroy a Nazi-era prison and laboratory named Jotunheim where political prisoners were held and experimentations took place.”

The Nazi connection and material that could be covered there might help to support the assumption that the film might indeed end up landing an R-rating.

The sizzle-reel trailer that dropped during DC FanDome also seemingly revealed that the villain of the film might be alien baddie Starro.

Here is a rundown of the cast.

Margot Robbie and ‘Birds of Prey’ Screenwriter Christina Hodson Attached To A Second ‘Pirates of The Caribbean’ Film – Will She Play Redd?

It looks like Disney is putting a lot of energy into their Pirates of The Caribbean franchise.

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed Disney is now developing a second film alongside the reboot they’re working on. This second project would star Suicide Squad and Birds of Prey actress Margot Robbie in an undisclosed leading role with screenwriter Christina Hodson writing this new film.

Hodson is likely best known for her work on the DC Comics films such as Birds of Prey, Batgirl, and most recently with rewrites on The Flash.

Robbie being Australian might be a good excuse to shoot at the various sea-side locations and studios down under. I’m also curious if they’re planning on giving her the role of Redd, the updated attraction character from the parks that is now a female pirate.

This female project is said to be featuring new/original characters. Also, would separate from the Pirates reboot that writers Ted Elliott and Craig Mazin (Chernobyl, The Last of Us) had been working on recently for Disney.

It certainly sounds like the studio is planning on expanding on the franchise without Jack Sparrow as both the films aren’t being pegged as sequels or a continuation of the previous installments.
