‘Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters’ Trailer: Godzilla Returns In Apple TV+ Series Coming November 17

Legendary is making sure that their Monsterverse franchise keeps expanding and a new spinoff series is expected to help with exactly that. Originally titled “Godzilla & The Titans,” the upcoming Apple TV+ series retitled “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” is set to debut mid-November and aims to explore the origins of the secretive global organization Monarch. The group has been tasked for decades to not only keep the existence of Titans a secret but also have spent that same time researching them. It’s unknown if any of the new characters will make the ultimate jump to the feature films, but it wouldn’t be that shocking if the streaming series does end up planting seeds for the next solo “Godzilla” installment after “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” is released next year.

The series has multiple directors handling episodes but the one that stands out is Matt Shakman, who previously worked on Marvel’s “WandaVision” and is still attached to helm their high-profile reboot of “The Fantastic Four.” It also sees both Kurt Russell and son Wyatt Russell (“The Falcon & The Winter Soldier,” “Overlord”) working together on the same project, as they play the same character on the show, Army Officer Lee Shaw. But in different periods of the character’s life as part of Monarch.

Apple has released a first-look teaser trailer, which you can view below. The 10-episode run will debut in November with the first two episodes, followed by one episode every Friday through January 12.

Here is the show’s official logline via Apple:

Following the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that leveled San Francisco, and the shocking revelation that monsters are real, “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” tracks two siblings following in their father’s footsteps to uncover their family’s connection to the secretive organization known as Monarch. Clues lead them into the world of monsters and ultimately down the rabbit hole to Army Officer Lee Shaw (played by Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell), taking place in the 1950s and half a century later when Monarch is threatened by what Shaw knows. Based on the Monsterverse from Legendary, and starring Kurt Russell, Wyatt Russell, Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe, Mari Yamamoto, Anders Holm, Joe Tippett, and Elisa Lasowski, this dramatic saga — spanning three generations — reveals buried secrets and the ways that epic, earth-shattering events can reverberate through our lives.

As mentioned, “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” will debut this November 17 on Apple TV+ and next year will see Adam Wingard’s “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” hit the big screen on April 12. Although given multiple release dates being shuffled around, it’s possible that the latter date could shift in the coming months.

Kurt Russell Joins Matthew McConaughey In Oklahoma-Set Indie Crime Thriller ‘The Rivals Of Amziah King’

On the heels of Matthew McConaughey (“True Detective”) leading the new “Yellowstone” spinoff series, the actor is finally making a return to movies with “The Rivals of Amaziah King” which has been shooting in Alabama. He’s getting quite the interesting co-star as the Alabama-based outlet AL has revealed that veteran actor Kurt Russell has joined the crime thriller he was spotted on the set this week in Marshall County and posted a handful of photos of Russell.

Details are scarce about the project but it hails from filmmaker Andrew Patterson (“The Vast of Night”) and Variety had previously described it as a “deeply atmospheric, character-focused crime thriller set against the unique backdrop of remote Oklahoma.” While there is a heap of industry work stoppage due to the WGA/SAG-AFTRA strike, “Rivals” (from Black Bear Productions) is said to be exempt from the strike because it’s an indie film.

McConaughey hasn’t done a live-action film role since Guy Ritchie’s 2019 British gangster-comedy “The Gentlemen.” The “Yellowstone” spinoff came about after main star Kevin Costner decided to exit the mothership series, which was “disappointing” to show creator Taylor Sheridan.

Russell’s recent run of theatrical film projects includes brief appearances in “F9: The Fast Saga” and “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.” A neat little factoid is that his son and fellow actor Wyatt Russell played hockey at the University of Alabama in Huntsville as he aimed to become a professional before a career-ending injury. After that Wyatt pivoted to acting in things like “22 Jump Street” and “Black Mirror.” The pair will be seen together in the Monsterverse series at Apple TV+ called “Godzilla & The Titans.”

Quentin Tarantino Ponders Making A Faithful Adaptation Of ‘First Blood’ With Adam Driver As Rambo & Kurt Russell As Sheriff Teasle

Director Quentin Tarantino is on a book tour meeting and speaking with multiple outlets, this means he’s talking-up a bunch of hypothetical projects and ideas that normally he’d keep to himself or wait until there was a film to promote.

While chatting with The Big Picture Podcast (via The Playlist), the filmmaker brought up the idea of making a more commercial viable film by doing a faithful adaptation of the David Morrell novel First Blood, the book published in 1972 was developed into a starring vehicle for Sly Stallone in 1982 and led to four sequels.

“I would do the novel. And Kurt Russell would play the sheriff, and [Adam Driver] would play Rambo. Every time I read [the novel], the dialogue is so fantastic…[The film] would be so good,” Tarantino told the podcast about his ideas for a remake and who should take lead roles.

First came the man: a young wanderer in a fatigue coat and long hair. Then came the legend, as John Rambo sprang from the pages of FIRST BLOOD to take his place in the American cultural landscape. This remarkable novel pits a young Vietnam veteran against a small-town cop who doesn’t know whom he’s dealing with — or how far Rambo will take him into a life-and-death struggle through the woods, hills, and caves of rural Kentucky.

The idea is based on if he hadn’t planned on retiring after making his 10th feature film, so even if it’s neat idea, it’s unlikely going to happen. First Blood is considered the best of the Rambo movies as it the most coherent film, but wasn’t as faithful as some might imagine.

It’s a little curious why he’s bringing up First Blood, as there is indeed a Rambo remake in the works called Rambo: New Blood from Millennium Films. The remake reportedly had Brooks McLaren attached to pen the script and Ariel Vromen (The Iceman, Criminal) to direct, but there hasn’t been much of an update since 2016, so it’s unlikely that incarnation is going to happen.

Back in 2015, Stallone suggested in an interview during the press rounds for Creed that Canadian actor Ryan Gosling take the John Rambo mantle.

Author/creator David Morrell took to Twitter during the release of the critically panned Rambo: Last Blood and said he was embarrassed by it. Stallone had announced his retirement of the character not too long ago and it’s not like a remake would be stepping on his toes with a remake.
