‘Kraven The Hunter’: Aaron Taylor-Johnson Nabs Titular Role In Sony’s ‘Spider-Man’ Spinoff Movie Directed By J.C. Chandor

Sony Pictures is developing a heap of Marvel movies set within their own Spider-Man cinematic universe with Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Morbius on the horizon. Another big project is one focused on Spidey villain Kraven The Hunter that was written by Art Marcum, Matt Holloway, and Richard Wenk with J.C. Chandor set to director.

Sony has found their Kraven, as The Wrap reports that British actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson has landed the titular role in the Marvel spinoff film. The actor isn’t new to comic book adaptations as he played Quicksilver in Avengers: Age of Ultron, took the lead role in the two Kick-Ass movies, and has a role in the Kingsman prequel The King’s Man. He most recently joined the cast of David Leitch’s Japanese-set action film Bullet Train that stars Oscar-winner Brad Pitt.

While many people are under the impression that the spinoffs could end up part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s clear that hiring Marvel’s Quicksilver actor is a sign that the two universes aren’t as connected as fans believed.

20th Century Hires Joe Cornish To Write/Direct A Feature Film Adaptation of Mark Millar’s ‘Starlight’

Finally, a new high-profile project has been announced at Disney’s 20th Century Studios.

Attack The Block’s Joe Cornish has been assigned to write and direct a feature film adaptation of Mark Millar’s comic book Starlight. The project seems to be influenced by sci-fi swashbucklers such as Flash Gordon, Buck Rogers, and John Carter.

The comic centers on a space hero who saved the universe 35 years ago but when he came back to Earth, no one believed his fantastic stories. He married, had kids and settled into old age, but then his old rocket ship shows up, and he is called back for one fantastic adventure.

It’s a little odd would attempt Starlight since 20th Century Studios has the rights to Flash Gordon with development on both animated and live-action movies over the last couple of years. Perhaps, the twist is appealing enough to purse this project alongside Flash?

Joe previously co-wrote the original Ant-Man script with Edgar Wright, the pair also worked on Steven Spielberg’s The Adventures of Tinin: The Secret of The Unicorn. He recently directed The Kid Who Would Be King and is set to helm the Lockwood series for Netflix.

Mark Millar is a comic book writer that is behind mature work such as Kingsman, Kick-Ass, Wanted, Empress, Superior, and Jupiter’s Legacy. The latter getting an upcoming Netflix series.

At one time, 20th Century Fox (pre-merger) was developing a film based on his Shazam!/Superman knock-off Superior with Matthew Vaughn (had been attached to direct a Flash Gordon remake). It’s unknown if the studio is going to move forward with that superhero project anytime soon.

Kingsman is one of the many film franchises that Disney inherited when they bought 21st Century Fox. The big news coming from Marv Group CEO Zygi Kamasa at the UK Finance Summit from last week via Deadline is that Matthew Vaughn is plotting “something like seven more Kingsman films” as Marv Films hopes to make more projects as part of their expansion plans.

KASAMA: “We have a Kingsman TV series in the works and there are two-three other franchises that are being developed alongside the Kingsman world.”

A prequel film titled The King’s Man is completed with a release date for February 12th, 2021.

It’s cast consists of Ralph Fiennes as The Duke of Oxford, Harris Dickinson as Conrad, Gemma Arterton as Polly, Djimon Hounsou as Shola, Charles Dance as Arthur, Daniel Bruhl, Stanley Tucci, Matthew Goode as Tristan, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Tom Hollander, and Rhys Ifans as Rasputin.

Kingsman 3 is also in development stages with Taron Egerton and Colin Firth set to return. Matthew Vaughn had recently suggested to Empire Magazine he wanted to direct the third installment after there had been talk of someone else taking over directing duties.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle introduced an American branch called The Statesman, which could also get their own films.

Jon S. Baird Confirmed To Direct ‘Tetris’ Drama For Marv Films – Working Title Is ‘Falling Blocks’

There had been mystery surrounding what Marv Films project director Jon S. Baird (Filth, Stan & Ollie) had been attached to direct after trade reports linked to an unknown project. In July it was reported by the Daily Mail that Jon would be directing a live-action Tetris movie with British actor Taron Egerton (Kingsman 1-2, Eddie The Eagle, Rocketman) set to play video game entrepreneur Henk Rogers.

The Ronin can now confirm the Daily Mail’s reporting that Baird is indeed attached to direct with Matthew Vaughn producing and add that film and could begin shooting this fall/winter in the United Kingdom under the working title of Falling Blocks.

This version seems to be heading more in the period drama direction as it’ll take place in the 1980s during The Cold War.

Russian video game developer Alexey Pajitnov created the hit Tetris, which was popularized by the Nintendo Gameboy but was embroiled in a legal battle to secure the intellectual rights.

Taron had been previously in talks to take the leading role of Seymour in the remake of genre musical Little Shop of Horrors for Warner Bros. and director Greg Berlanti. I’m not sure what this means for Taron’s involvement with Little Shop of Horrors, which had landed tax incentives to shoot in the state of California.

Tetris aka Falling Blocks could end up landing a release date sometime in 2021.

TRAILER: Aaron Taylor-Johnson Playing A Shadowy Scottish Villain In ‘The King’s Man’ – Still Releasing In September

A new trailer for Matthew Vaughn’s Kingsman prequel King’s Man has been released by 20th Century Studios and they’ll sticking to their September 18th release date.

This new footage includes Aaron Taylor-Johnson as a shadowy figure (bald and with a mustache) and is most likely playing the film’s main villain. The unnamed character also clearly has a Scottish accent and seems to be leading the group of villains our heroes will be going up against throughout the film.

Could Aaron’s ring be clue that connects him to the Duke of Oxford and the newly formed agency?

As a collection of history’s worst tyrants and criminal masterminds gather to plot a war to wipe out millions, one man must race against time to stop them. Discover the origins of the very first independent intelligence agency in The King’s Man.

I wouldn’t be terribly shocked if Disney/20th Century decides to delay the release date.

The rest of the cast in the prequel includes Ralph Fiennes as Duke of Oxford, Harris Dickinson as Conrad, Gemma Arterton as Polly, Djimon Hounsou as Shola, Charles Dance as Arthur, Daniel Bruhl, Stanley Tucci, Matthew Goode as Tristan, Tom Hollander, and Rhys Ifans as Rasputin.

You can see Aaron in the new poster wearing a British uniform.

Edgar Wright and Jane Goldman Teaming On Kidnap Thriller ‘The Chain’ For Universal

Deadline has revealed that Universal Pictures has optioned the film rights to the Adrian McKinty novel The Chain with Edgar Wright set to direct and Jane Goldman hired to adapt the book into a script.

The Chain tells the story of Rachel, who learns that her 11-year-old daughter has been kidnapped. The only way to get her back is to kidnap another child. Her daughter will be released only when that next victim’s parents kidnap another child. If Rachel doesn’t kidnap another child, or if that child’s parents don’t kidnap a child, her daughter will be murdered. She is now part of The Chain, a terrifying and meticulous chain letter-like kidnapping scheme that turns parents from victims into criminals.

Wright is set to release his psychological horror film Last Night In Soho starring Anya Taylor-Joy on April 23rd, 2021, and is also developing the sci-fi film based on the novel Set Heart To Five from Simon Stephenson.

Jane is best known for films such as Stardust, X-Men: First Class, Kick-Ass, Kingsman: The Secret Service, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, The King’s Man, and had been hired as the showrunner for the first Game of Thrones prequel spinoff series that didn’t move forward beyond a pilot episode.

It’ll be interesting to see if Edgar ever gets around to making his Baby Driver sequel because he keeps signing on for other projects in the meantime.
