Katee Sackhoff Says Bo-Katan Is “Important” To The Story and Future of ‘The Mandalorian’ Series – Game For A Spinoff

Last Friday, Star Wars fans finally got to see the live-action version of Bo-Katan played by voice actress Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica) and it seemed to be setting up the character for bigger things given her connection to the Darksaber that is currently in the hands of Moff Gideon. Not to mention her own journey could be explored further.

Katee stat down with Entertainment Tonight (via The Playlist) for her first interview about The Mandalorian and revealed that Bo-Katan is expected to be important to the future of the series.

SACKOFF: “She’s been such a pivotal character in this world and she’s so important to this story in The Mandalorian and where it’s going.”

Although, she seems to allude that she won’t have scenes with Rosario Dawson’s Ahsoka Tano or even confirm that casting. Tano is the next person that Mando will have to track down in upcoming episodes. But this could be something to through people off the scent of what’s to come.

SACKHOFF: “I’ve never met Rosario [Dawson], so I don’t know anything about [her role]. I love the character from Clone Wars and Rebels, so I’d love to see [Ahsoka].”

Katee points out she isn’t into spoil things for the fans and likely isn’t looking to ruin things for people.

Not to say anything is sure but it’s possible that the series could be handed-off to a new leading Mandalorian character like Bo-Katan either getting her own spinoff (a rumor that was debunked by Deadline) or taking the lead role from Din Djarin in future seasons of The Mandolarian.

Katee can’t confirm spinoff plans but says she would be interested in continuing the character as long as they want her.

SACKHOFF: “That’s what is so great about the Star Wars Universe there are so many stories…I have no idea but I would love to play this character as long as she has a story.”

I guess we’ll have to wait and see how much more Bo-Katan we’ll be getting in Season 2.

Unannounced ‘Boba Fett’ Miniseries For Disney+ Rumored To Begin Shooting This Week

Deadline is claiming that a Boba Fett miniseries is set to begin shooting this week before Season 3 of The Mandalorian.

A project that has yet to be confirmed officially by Lucasfilm or Disney.

I hear possibly a Boba Fett miniseries, would film first, starting next week, with The Mandalorian Season 3 following after a monthlong break.

We previously got confirmation that actor Temurea Morrison would be taking the Boba Fett role in Season 2 of The Mandalorian, as his New Zealand agency confirmed the part in an official CV document.

Information on this Boba Fett series is limited given that Lucasfilm hasn’t even announced it officially or who is working on it. We also don’t know if it will be following Morrison or a younger incarnation of the character before the events of the original trilogy. Daniel Logan played a younger version of Boba in the prequels and could be the right age for a series.

Josh Trank and Simon Kinberg had been developing a Boba Fett movie for Lucasfilm before the project dissolved after the hiccups at 20th Century Fox making Fantastic Four. Lucasfilm attempted a second incarnation of the Fett movie but development there stalled again leading to the studio to pivot to The Mandalorian series instead along with the other spinoff films like Solo: A Star Wars Story.

This path would seemingly echo how Ewan McGregor’s Kenobi film turned into a limited series for Disney+ with The Mandalorian’s Deborah Chow set to direct that show after film development didn’t stick.

Boba Fett is established as a clone of Jango Fett (played by Temurea Morrison) and first appeared in the Star Wars Holiday Special in the animated sequence, then appeared in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of The Jedi (also in Special Edition of A New Hope years after it’s original release). A younger live-action incarnation of Boba Fett (played by Daniel Logan) was last seen in Star Wars: Attack of The Clones.

Who exactly is directing or writing this Boba Fett project is unknown.

Actress Sophie Thatcher Reportedly Joining ‘The Mandalorian’ Universe

Deadline is reporting a rumor that American actress Sophie Thatcher (Prospect) is joining The Mandalorian universe in Season 3, a spinoff series or both. It’s unclear at the moment what the project is, however, they suggest that rumor of a spinoff featuring Cara Dune and Bo-Katan is untrue for the moment.

A recent online report pointed to a potential offshoot featuring Cara Dune, played by Gina Carano, and the Star Wars Rebels character Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff, who has been rumored to appear The Mandalorian‘s second season.) Such a project does not appear to be real, at least for now.

Adding to the confusion is the fact that Disney+ is developing a female-centered Star Wars series, written and showrun by Leslye Headland, believed to be a female-driven action thriller with martial arts elements and set in an alternate timeline from the usual Star Wars universe. The rumored spinoff is said to be separate from this Star Wars project but the situation is fluid.

It remains to be seen what this spinoff series could be if it’s something else than what has been reported previously. They’re also not disclosing information concerning Thatcher’s Star Wars role.

Sophie previously worked with The Mandalorian star Pedro Pascal in the sci-fi thriller Prospect.

Showrunner and director Jon Favreau has stated that they’re hopeful to roll cameras before the end of the year. Deadline is also pointing to a start in 2021.

Earlier this morning we posted about Season 3’s working title seemingly being confirmed as Buccaneer via Production Weekly (originally coming from The DisInsider last month), a potential sign we could be seeing more pirates, smugglers, thieves, and criminal syndicates in the new season. Also, our own speculation that beloved alien pirate, Hondo Ohnaka, could show up given he’s still alive in this era of Star Wars and Filoni adding his characters from the animated series in Season 2.

Depending on how the shoot goes, Season 3 might be ready to air on Disney+ by the end of 2021.

‘The Mandalorian’ Season 3 Working Title Is ‘Buccaneer’ – Jon Favreau Expected To Direct Again

It was posted by Production Weekly that the working title of Season 3 of Lucasfilm’s The Mandalorian will be Buccaneer.

The title is a pirate term which could suggest that a beloved Clone Wars/Rebels character like Hondo Ohnaka might be showing up in Season 3, but that is more speculation given how other animation characters are said to have live-action counterparts appearing in Season 2.

However, it is worth noting that Hondo happens to be a character at Galaxy’s Edge (means he is alive in The Mandalorian era and beyond) and there is an obvious reason to link a theme park character to the popular series.

It could also be a nod to the criminal group Dharus Buccaneers.

There are plenty of pirate gangs and criminal syndicates in Star Wars but we really haven’t seen them in full display as The Mandalorian (so far) has been mostly exploring the world of bounty hunters and Imperial forces with limited interaction with the criminal side of the galaxy.

Back in August, The Ronin reported that Jon Favreau is returning as writer, producer, showrunner, and director. He’s expected to direct at least one episode in Season 3 as he recently directed the Season 2 premiere. We also confirmed that Emmy-winning production designer Andrew Jones would be returning.

There is also an assumption that Dave Filoni will be back as a director too.

Favreau has suggested to Variety that filming could begin before the end of the year.

Executive producer and showrunner Jon Favreau told Variety that The Mandalorian is “on schedule” to start production on Season 3 of the series “before the end of the year” — after Pascal wraps shooting in Europe on the feature film The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent with Nicolas Cage.

Despite fan rumblings of actor Pedro Pascal being replaced as Din Djarin aka Mando that doesn’t seem to be happening given how credible sources haven’t supported that chatter and Pascal has been heavily promoting the series (even on his own time).

The working title was first brought-up by Skyler from The DisInsider back in October via Twitter and is now seemingly confirmed by Production Weekly’s update.

The Mandalorian and the Child continue their journey, facing enemies and rallying allies as they make their way through a dangerous galaxy in the tumultuous era after the collapse of the Galactic Empire. “The Mandalorian” stars Pedro Pascal, Gina Carano, Carl Weathers and Giancarlo Esposito. Directors for the new season include Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, Bryce Dallas Howard, Rick Famuyiwa, Carl Weathers, Peyton Reed and Robert Rodriguez. Showrunner Jon Favreau serves as executive producer along with Dave Filoni, Kathleen Kennedy and Colin Wilson, with Karen Gilchrist serving as co-executive producer.

Jon Favreau Hopeful Season 3 of ‘The Mandalorian’ Will Begin Filming Before The End of 2020 and Is Open To Making A Movie

In a new interview with Variety, showrunner Jon Favreau states that Season 3 of The Mandalorian is seemingly on schedule to begin filming before the end of the year as soon as Pedro Pascal finishes up a film he’s working on in Europe.

The Ronin previously confirmed that production designer Andrew Jones is already set to return for Season 3.

Jon talked up about focusing on characters and flushing them out being a high priority along with not rushing things.

FAVREAU: “I love the world of Star Wars because, on the one hand, there’s a familiarity with this sub-genre, but there’s also a tremendous amount of flexibility of which way you can go and genres you could explore within that sub-genre. As we’re meeting new characters, and as we’re starting to hit our stride, from a production standpoint with how this technology can be used, we are beginning to explore where we could go.”

“And we could start to expand what we’re doing and our ambitions about what characters we want to follow.”

“I learned a lot from my experience over at Marvel, where it was very organic, how it would evolve. You’re paying attention to a larger story arcs and characters that could come together, but also smaller stories of individual characters that could go off [on their own thing]. The key here is keep maintaining the quality and never scaling to the point that we’re losing sight of what’s important to us and what people like about the show.”

When asked if they were keen on the idea of making a feature film Jon says they’re in “no rush” but is open to the idea.

FAVREAU: “The line is blurring now. Things that you would have only seen in the movie theater, you’re seeing on streaming, and I think it could go the other way as well.”

“But we’re definitely open to it and excited to see where the story leads us and have that flexibility — because there’s no rulebook now.”

Actor Pedro Pascal, who will be returning to shoot Season 3 despite rumors he’ll be replaced, is also game to do a movie.

PASCAL: “I think that the work is so beautiful that I would love for that to be held by a big screen experience. But it seems to work so well that also I’m not sure it’s something that I would want corrupted by any kind of change, you know? I mean, I certainly know that the challenge can be met. It’s not like these people don’t have the experience. If anybody can do it, they can!”

Giancarlo Esposito recently suggested The Mandalorian would be getting a fourth season before that has been officially announced which could suggest they plan on going pretty far with their Mandalorian run on Disney+. There have also been plenty of unconfirmed rumors about this season leading to multiple spinoff series but that has yet to be supported by industry trades or announced by Disney/Lucasfilm.

Season 2 of The Mandalorian begins airing on Disney+ starting on October 30th.

TRAILER: ‘The Mandalorian’ Season 2 Will See Din Djarin Return The Child To The Jedi – Sasha Banks Confirmed For Role

After some hiccups from the fan community guessing when the new trailer for the second season of The Mandalorian would drop, Disney decided today was the day.

This is the way.

The new footage even looks a bit more slick than the last season and reveals that Din Djarin’s mission will be to return The Child aka Baby Yoda to the Jedi.

Wrestler Sasha Banks can also been seen in the trailer sporting some robes, but what her role is can’t be determined here. There had been rumors she had taken to part of Star Wars Rebels character Sabine, a fellow Mandalorian.

They’ve also confirmed the full directors list includes Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, Bryce Dallas Howard, Rick Famuyiwa, Carl Weathers, Peyton Reed, and Robert Rodriguez.

Season 3 is well into pre-production and as The Ronin has reported will see the return of production designer Andrew Jones with Jon Favreau expected to return to direct at least one episode.

The new series will begin airing on Disney+ starting on October 30th.

‘The Mandalorian’ Season 2 Officially Begins Airing October 30th On Disney+ – Debunks Delay/Reshoot Rumor

Yesterday, some really bad Star Wars rumors were making the rounds from the most unreliable source, YouTube streamer Grace Randolph. She was suggesting that because a trailer for The Mandalorian Season 2 didn’t magically appear during the NBA playoffs that there were extensive Season 2 reshoots ahead and most likely delays.

Stating that Disney was unhappy with the upcoming season.

However, it looks like she was again exposed as a huckster peddling in false information as Disney officially announced today on the show’s Twitter account that episodes will begin airing on October 30th on Disney+. This news should comfort those that were silly enough to fall for those attention seeking lies.

They also includes a new logo for the second season.

Lucasfilm is hard at work on Season 3 prep with writing scripts and pre-production stages as the pandemic has shuffled the schedule a little. The Ronin revealed last week that Jon Favreau is expected to direct at least one episode and that Emmy-nominated production designer Andrew L. Jones is confirmed to be returning.

Once the promotion for Mulan’s Premier Access on Disney+ is over there is a strong expectation that Disney will release a trailer and marketing wave for The Mandalorian.

EXCLUSIVE: ‘The Mandalorian’ Season 3 Will See The Return of Production Designer Andrew L. Jones

The Ronin has learned The Mandalorian Season 3 is already gathering up crew members and can confirm we will see the return of production designer Andrew L. Jones, who worked on the previous two seasons of the hit live-action Star Wars series airing on Disney+.

Jones recently earned a Primetime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Program (Half-Hour) for his work on the first season of The Mandalorian.

Jon Favreau is already confirmed to be writing and producing the next season as well.

We are hearing Jon is expected to direct at least one episode in the third season, but haven’t been able to confirm that aspect.

Season 2 is still set to begin airing on Disney+ sometime in October according to Disney and an official trailer is likely around the corner.

Production on Season 3 seems to have been delayed due to the pandemic but there is plenty of prep going on.

‘The Mandalorian’ Season 2 Post-Production On Schedule For October Release According To Jon Favreau

Jon Favreau recently spoke to Vanity Fair’s Anthony Breznican, who was moderating the virtual panel for the ATX Television Festival (via The Hollywood Reporter) where Favreau gave a brief update on the status of The Mandalorian Season 2.

It sounds like things in the post-production phase are indeed moving along nicely and they’ll be able to hit that targeted drop date in October.

FAVREAU: “We were lucky enough to have finished photography before the lockdown. Thanks to how technology-forward Lucasfilm and ILM are, we have been able to do all of our visual effects and editing and post-production remotely through systems that had been set up by those companies for us.”

Luckily for The Mandalorian, they wrapped photography back in March giving them a slight edge over their fellow Disney+ shows from Marvel Studios that still need to finish filming.

Directing episodes in Season 2 include Jon, Carl Weathers, Dave Filoni, Alita: Battle Angel’s Robert Rodriguez, and Ant-Man’s Peyton Reed.

The new additions to the upcoming second season reportedly include Rosario Dawson, Timothy Olyphant, Temuera Morrison, and Michael Biehn. There is a good chance we could see these Season 2 characters getting a spinoff series as previously telegraphed by Bob Iger not too long ago.

We already know that Season 3 of The Mandalorian is in the works with Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor and Ewan McGregor’s Kenobi series expected to begin shooting by next year.

I’m slightly curious when Lucasfilm and Disney will announce plans for future live-action shows.
