'Star Wars: New Jedi Order' Actress Daisy Ridley Supports Finn Becoming A Jedi: “I Would Love To See That"

‘Star Wars: New Jedi Order’ Actress Daisy Ridley Supports Finn Becoming A Jedi: “I Would Love To See That”

Lucasfilm is continuing the Rey Skywalker story with “Star Wars: New Jedi Order” set to bring back sequel trilogy actress Daisy Ridley to pay the young Jedi master as she looks to train a new generation of Jedi in the movie set for release on December 18, 2026. While we’re still in the dark about the return of other established characters like John Boyega‘s Finn, that sort of got short-changed after being set up in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” as the co-lead before taking more of a supporting role in the wake of weird racist/sexist backlash the sequel trilogy installments kept getting from the more unhinged corners of the internet and right-wing media freaking out about women and non-white characters being protagonists in fantasy films.

Ridley while speaking with Screen Rant, isn’t sure if Lucasfilm will ultimately bring Finn back but supports the idea of having him finally make the jump to become a Jedi, even if it’s “above her pay grade” to make that happen. “That is above my pay grade. [Laughs] I would love to see that, but that is not a decision for me,” the “Star Wars” actress told Screen Rant when asked about Boyega finally getting his Jedi wish.

For Boyega’s part, he’s said in the past he’s spoken since the release of “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” with Lucasfilm’s head Kathleen Kennedy, sharing his previous disappointments. He’s also made it clear to media and fans that he’s not interested in reprising the Finn role for a Disney+ project, leaving some wiggle room for a comeback on the big screen. Many were upset that Finn never ended up becoming a Jedi even though they kept teasing his force-sensitives, and he even wielded a lightsaber twice in the first film. Sadly, it felt like Lucasfilm caved to a small vocal group that was incensed that a black actor was playing a Stormtrooper and being given such a prominent role in the film.

There have been rumblings of Finn’s big return, but nothing official has been announced, and we likely would know about something like that closer to a production start. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (“Ms. Marvel”) is set to direct “Star Wars: New Jedi Order” with a tentative release date of December 18, 2026, and it has been suggested that cameras could begin rolling sometime after Jon Favreau‘s “The Mandalorian & Grogu” (heading to theaters on May 22, 2026) kicks-off production in California later this year.

There is also now a sense that James Mangold’s “Star Wars: Dawn of The Jedi” could end up taking the spot on December 17, 2027, reserved for another “Star Wars” movie.

Disney Dates Two ‘Star Wars’ Movies For 2026 With Bob Iger Hinting Jon Favreau’s ‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’ Up First In May 2026

There have been some rather big updates concerning the “Star Wars” universe with small screen confirmations that “The Mandalorian” is still getting a fourth season despite a feature film on the way and Dave Filoni (Lucasfilm’s new Chief Creative Officer) is already working on getting “Ahsoka” season two in the bag before pivoting to his own “Star Wars” movie set during that television timeline allowing him to play with both original saga and his own animation characters. We now have an idea of when to expect the next TWO movies thanks to Disney.

During an earnings call yesterday, Disney’s Bob Iger confirmed that Jon Favreau‘s “The Mandalorian & Grogu,” a continuation of the Disney+ series, would be the first new “Star Wars” movie to be released in 2026. That comes after Disney updated their main release slate (via Fandango’s Erik Davis) to include two 2026 spots for “Star Wars” films including May 22, 2026, and December 18, 2026.

Seemingly, Iger was giving us the impression that the “Mando” movie is most likely heading toward that May spot and the new Rey Skywalker installment “Star Wars: New Jedi Order” (Given how far along development is) could be heading toward that December release with director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (“Ms. Marvel”) attached alongside Daisy Ridley‘s return to the franchise. Considering the previous films in the Rey Skywalker saga took December spots, it’s not all that surprising to us that would end up landing the holiday spot.

There have been hints that both of the films could be ready to shoot as early as this summer/fall but we’ll have to wait for some casting news to know for sure when they’re gearing up for production.

EXCLUSIVE: Daisy Ridley Thriller ‘The Marsh King’s Daughter’ Adds ‘Sunshine’ & ‘Hanna’ Cinematographer Alwin Küchler

The Ronin can confirm that German cinematographer Alwin Küchler has joined the upcoming Neil Burger-directed thriller The Marsh King’s Daughter. The pic begins shooting this month in Toronto with Star Wars actors Daisy Ridley and Ben Mendelsohn (Animal Kingdom, Killing Them Softly) taking main roles.

Helena Pelletier has a loving husband, two beautiful daughters, and a business that fills her days. But she also has a secret: she is the product of an abduction. Her mother was kidnapped as a teenager by her father and kept in a remote cabin in the marshlands of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Helena, born two years after the abduction, loved her home in nature, and despite her father’s sometimes brutal behavior, she loved him, too…until she learned precisely how savage he could be. More than twenty years later, she has buried her past so soundly that even her husband doesn’t know the truth. But now her father has killed two guards, escaped from prison, and disappeared into the marsh. The police begin a manhunt, but Helena knows they don’t stand a chance. Knows that only one person has the skills to find the survivalist the world calls the Marsh King–because only one person was ever trained by him: his daughter.

His feature film credits include Joe Wright’s Hanna, Neil Burger’s Divergent, Danny Boyle films Sunshine and Steve Jobs alongside additional photography for Netflix’s Project Power. Alwin recently worked on the MARV Films’ video game development biopic Tetris directed by Jon S. Baird (Filth) and stars Taron Edgerton (Rocketman, Eddie The Eagle, Kingsman 1-2).

Writers Mark L. Smith (Overlord, The Revenant, The Midnight Sky) and Elle Smith adapted the Karen Dionne novel for the screen. Mark was also working with Quentin Tarantino to develop a Star Wars film for Paramount that seemingly has stalled.

Mendelsohn will reprise his Marvel Cinematic Universe role, Talos, in the Disney+ series Secret Invasion. The Marvel sci-fi show will focus on the shape-shifting Skrulls replacing superheroes as the aliens attempt to invade Earth. It’s possible he’ll also appear in Nia DaCosta’s Captain Marvel sequel, The Marvels.

A release date for The Marsh King’s Daughter hasn’t been set.

Fellow ‘Star Wars’ Alum Ben Mendelsohn To Play Daisy Ridley’s Father In Thriller ‘The Marsh King’s Daughter’

Yesterday, we were able to confirm production dates for Neil Burger’s upcoming thriller The Marsh King’s Daughter starring Star Wars franchise star Daisy Ridley, that will be filming June to August in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

There is some fresh casting news coming from Deadline as Aussie actor Ben Mendelsohn will be playing the notorious Marsh King in the film.

Helena (Ridley), a woman living a seemingly ordinary life, but hiding a dark secret: her father (Mendelsohn) is the infamous “Marsh King,” the man who kept her and her mother captive in the wilderness for years. After a lifetime of trying to escape her past, Helena is forced to face her demons when her father unexpectedly escapes from prison.

Like Ridley, Ben is a Star Wars alum playing the main antagonist in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. He is also attached to reprise the role of Talos in Marvel Studios’ Secret Invasion series for Disney+ and his involvement with The Marsh King’s Daughter would support talk that the MCU event won’t be shooting in the United Kingdom until later in the year.

Neil Burger Thriller ‘The Marsh King’s Daughter’ Starring ‘Star Wars’ Alum Daisy Ridley Shooting June To August In Toronto

Director Neil Burger (Voyagers, Limitless) is set to direct a feature film adaptation of the Karen Dionne novel The Marsh King’s Daughter with Daisy Ridley set to take the film’s leading role. Ridley is best known for her role as Rey Skywalker in the sequel trilogy Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Helena (Ridley), a woman living a seemingly ordinary life, but hiding a dark secret: her father is the infamous “Marsh King,” the man who kept her and her mother captive in the wilderness for years. After a lifetime of trying to escape her past, Helena is forced to face her demons when her father unexpectedly escapes from prison.

The Ronin has learned that filming in Toronto, Ontario, Canada is expected to kick-off on June 7 and wrap sometime in early August. Daisy previously spent time in Canada shooting the Dough Liman sci-fi action film Chaos Walking co-starring Spider-Man’s Tom Holland in Montreal, Quebec.

STXfilms had nabbed the film’s domestic distribution rights last month but currently doesn’t have a release date.

Daisy Ridley has recently expressed an interest to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe even after previously tackling a large franchise like Star Wars. Fans have been campaigning online to see her as a contender to play Jessica Drew aka Spider-Woman in Olivia Wilde’s untitled Sony/Marvel film.

RIDLEY: “Well, it’s funny because someone asked me off the cuff about the Spider-Woman rumors recently, and I went, ‘Oh, that sounds great.’ Apparently, I’ve now declared myself a front-runner to be Spider-Woman which isn’t true!. It’s funny because I don’t really choose things… I [didn’t] set out to do another ‘big film.’ I just read the script, loved it, and loved the idea of it.”

“Basically, should something come along and be great, of course, I’d be open to anything. I just finished WandaVision. What they did with it is so amazing and different and interesting. To be particularly in that world, which is ever-shifting and reimagining itself would be very exciting.”

Daisy Ridley “Open To Anything” Concerning A Future Role In The MCU

While many fans have been championing Star Wars actress Daisy Ridley for the role of Marvel Comics heroine Jessica Drew aka Spider-Woman, it sounds like she is open to pretty much anything related to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

During an interview with Comic Book Movie, Ridley suggests she might be open to things other than Spider-Woman and even brings up the Disney+ series WandaVision. Potentially hinting to an openness to tackle something in television as well as on the big screen.

Just because fans would like to see her play Spider-Woman it doesn’t mean it will actually happen and it’s worth mentioning there are many female characters connected to the MCU that she could end up playing besides Jessica Drew.

Olivia Wilde is reportedly directing a Spider-Woman film for Sony Pictures but it hasn’t been announced if Marvel Studios would be officially participating in the project.

It’s worth mentioning that the X-Men franchise is on the horizon. I could see Daisy playing a grown-up version X-23 or Morlock leader Callisto as it would allow her to play slightly more gruff characters than she has recently. I don’t know if she’s capable of a Southern accent for a character like X-Men’s Rogue, but that would lead to some interactions with Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel as she drains her powers to gain the ability of flight and super-strength.

We have to assume that roles such as S.W.O.R.D.’s Abigail Brand, Namora, Crystal, and Power Princess might be coming in the future too.

Playing either Rogue and Brand would allow Ridley to share scenes with Brie Larson, combining the two into a single project would totally irk a segment of the childish online community that share equal hate for Rey and Captain Marvel.

‘Star Wars’ Actress Daisy Ridley Reacts To ‘Spider-Woman’ Fancast & Is Loving ‘WandaVision’ – “I Would Love To Play Spider-Woman”

A while back it was revealed that director Olivia Wilde was hired by Sony Pictures to develop a new Marvel film, which was reportedly going to be a Spider-Woman film. This could mean that Marvel and Sony could be working together again as the main version of the character is a S.W.O.R.D. Agent and originates outside of the Spider-Man comics, clearly allowed to be used by Marvel.

We still haven’t got clarity officially from Sony if it will indeed be Spider-Woman or if Marvel will be involved like with their Spider-Man movies. If they were working on it this would mean it would be automatically part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe while stuff like Venom, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, and Kraven The Hunter are seemingly in Sony’s own spinoff universe. Morbius’ trailer hinting a direct connection with Spider-Man: Homecoming as it featured Michael Keaton’s Vulture.

There has been a growing call to have Star Wars alumni Daisy Ridley in the role of Jessica Drew aka Spider-Woman. Her co-star Oscar Isaac recently joined the MCU nabbing the Marc Spector role for the upcoming Disney+ series Moon Knight.

Sariah Wilson has now spoke with Ridley and dished about that conversations on Twitter when the subject of the fancasting for Marvel heroine Spider-Woman came-up. She didn’t seem to know about it but seemed game while curious if it was part of the MCU or some off-shoot.

Ridley also revealed she is watching Marvel’s WandaVision and is loving it.

This is hardly evidence that any real talks have actually happened or are currently taking place, but Wilson seemed to finally put Spider-Woman on Daisy’s radar after outcry from her fans to take the superhero role.

I’m still waiting on Sony Pictures to release more details on the Olivia Wilde film.

‘Young Woman & The Sea’: Disney+ Drama From ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales’ Director May Star Daisy Ridley

Deadline reports that Star Wars actress Daisy Ridley is negotiations with Disney+ to play Trudy Ederle in an upcoming drama from director Joaquim Ronning, who previously worked with Disney for Pirates of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.

Disney+ is negotiating for Daisy Ridley to star and Joaquim Ronning to direct Young Woman And The Sea, a Jeff Nathanson-scripted drama based on the book by Glenn Stout that chronicles the daring journey of the first woman to ever swim across the English Channel. Gertrude “Trudy” Ederle made the 21 mile swim in 1926.

The daughter of a German butcher from Manhattan, Ederle was a competitive swimmer, who won gold in the 1924 Olympics when she decided to attempt crossing the channel. She undertook the feat after first swimming 22 miles from Battery Park in New York to Sandy Hook, NJ, setting a record that stood for 81 years. She contracted with two newspapers and sold her story, thereby financing her quest. There was actually a race among women who would be first to cross as only five men had done so before.

Daisy Ridley is coming off making three massive Star Wars movies for Disney, she also has a Lionsgate film titled Chaos Walking co-starring Tom Holland. Disney+ is expected to have many more original films developed for the streaming service and picking-up more dramatic features might be an attempt to attract an older demographic.
