‘Hawkeye’: Series Taking Place Years After The Events of ‘Avengers: Endgame’

Filming on Marvel’s Hawkeye series began this week in NYC and there have been a few reveals including Lucky aka Pizza Dog. Another interesting group of set photos from the other day posted on HQ Celeb Corner reveals when the show could be taking place and it’s well after the events of Avengers: Endgame which took place in 2023.

A set dressing poster on a Chinatown set celebrates the Chinese New Year in 2025 (January 29th, 2025) , the year of the snake. This would allude to this scene being set around or after the Chinese New Year.

There had been some question if the series would be taking place after Thanos’ snap leading him down to the path of his violent vigilante persona Ronin or would be taking place post-Endgame. It looks like at least the scenes with Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop will be taking place in or around 2025, around two years after Avengers: Endgame.

We could still see flashbacks to Barton’s dark patch between Infinity War and Endgame.

The rest of the cast includes Florence Pugh confirmed to reprise the Black Widow role of Yelena Belova, Alaqua Cox is Maya Lopez aka Echo, Vera Farmiga is playing Kate Bishop’s mother Eleanor, Fra Fee is playing Kazi aka Clown, Tony Dalton is playing Jack Duquesne aka Swordsman, and Zahn McClarnon is playing William Lopez (Maya’s father).

If production stays on track without anymore hiccups it’s possible that it could begin airing on Disney+ before the end of 2021.

‘Hawkeye’: Vera Farmiga Is Set As Kate’s Mother and Fra Fee Playing Villain Clown – Florence Pugh Confirmed

Yesterday, was the official start of production on Marvel Studios’ Hawkeye series currently filming in New York City as Hailee Steinfeld was confirmed by set photos/footage in the role of Kate Bishop opposite of Jeremy Renner’s Clint Barton aka Hawkeye.

Variety now reports Vera Farmiga, Florence Pugh, Fra Fee, Tony Dalton, Alaqua Cox, and Zahn McClarnon have joined the series.

Here is a rundown of the characters they’ll be playing.

Alaqua Cox is Maya Lopez aka Echo

Vera Farmiga is playing Kate Bishop’s mother Eleanor

Fra Fee is playing Kazi (thought to be villain Clown)

Tony Dalton is playing Jack Duquesne (thought to be Barton mentor Swordsman)

Zahn McClarnon is playing William Lopez (Maya’s father)

The Direct first reported Pugh’s involvement and return as Black Widow’s Yelena Belova.

Baron Strucker’s son Andreas von Strucker also took on the Swordsman persona in Thunderbolts.

It’s more of an info dump than we had been expecting considering how long it took to confirm Hailee Steinfeld as trades had really done a serious update on the Kate Bishop casting in a while. It’s interesting to see if Hawkeye will be using elements of Thunderbolts and if there will be a connection to The Falcon & The Winter Soldier.

‘Van Helsing’: New Movie Coming From ‘Overlord’ Director Julius Avery and ‘Black Widow’ Screenwriter Eric Pearson – James Wan Producing

At one time, Universal Pictures tried to develop a new film focusing on the famous monster hunter Van Helsing with director Guillermo del Toro and Tom Cruise starring. The character best known as the nemesis of Count Dracula in multiple installments from Hammer Films played by Star Wars actor Peter Cushing. More recently played by Anthony Hopkins in Francis Ford Coppola’s Dracula from 1992 and Hugh Jackman in the less scary Van Helsing adventure film from 2004.

Back in 2015, Universal then attempted to developed another reboot from screenwriters Jon Spaihts (Dune, Prometheus) and Eric Heisserer (Bloodshot, Arrival, Lights Out). This took place when the studio was assembling their Universal Monsters franchise called Dark Universe, which crumbled after the misstep of The Mummy reboot starring Tom Cruise flopped at the box office.

Deadline has an update on the project that will see James Wan’s production company Atomic Monster getting involved along with Overlord director Julius Avery now attached for the horror reboot. They also mention that a new script was penned by Eric Pearson (Black Widow, Thor: Ragnarok, Godzilla vs Kong, Agent Carter) that will now get rewrites from Avery.

Julius had once been attached to direct a reboot of Flash Gordon for 20th Century before the the merger with Disney led to the project’s demise.

Fellow Australian director Leigh Whannell (Upgrade) was tapped to reboot The Invisible Man with help from Blumhouse Productions and is now working on a new Wolfman movie that will star Ryan Gosling (Blade Runner 2049, Drive). There is a Dracula movie in the works from director Karyn Kusama (Jennifer’s Body, Destroyer) with other more comedic projects in various stages of development.

They had also been trying to reboot both Bride of Frankenstein and Creature From The Black Lagoon.

It’ll be interesting to see if Universal will want to make an R-rated film given the graphic nature of vampires to begin with and making PG-13 movies with vampires tend to be toothless concerning the horror angle being hindered without the use of blood/gore. I’m slightly curious if Avery’s film will be connected to Karyn’s Dracula film.

Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova Rumored To Appear In ‘Hawkeye’ Series

While we’re still waiting on official confirmation on who is playing Kate Bishop in Marvel’s Hawkeye series a new rumor is making the rounds.

The Direct claims that Black Widow actress Florence Pugh will be reprising her role of Yelena Belova in the show, although, they can’t say how large the appearance will be or if this will be a reoccurring role.

She is currently busy making the feature film thriller Don’t Worry Darling in California for director Olivia Wilde and if Florence is joining the Hawkeye show she won’t be filming scenes anytime soon.

Yelena Belova is part of the main character lineup of the Black Widow film (takes places between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War) and there has been assumptions from fans that Pugh would continue the legacy of the Black Widow mantle in future films after Natasha died in Avengers: Endgame. However, we don’t ultimately know Yelena’s fate in the Black Widow movie until we actually watch it.

The MCU incarnation of Yelena is meant to be more of a little sister to Natasha instead of a rival.

Filming will mainly take place in Atlanta but there is confirmation that some of the shoot will take place in NYC this week.

Jeremy Renner will be reprising the Clint Barton role as he mentors a young protege named Kate Bishop that becomes a member of the Young Avengers.

Marvel’s ‘Moon Knight’ Series Will Indeed Shoot In Budapest and Officially Adds ‘Morbius’ Production Designer Stefania Cella

In a brief production update from Discussing Film, they mention that Marvel’s Moon Knight series will be shooting Budapest, Hungary and that they’ve added production designer Stefania Cella (Morbius).

Moon Knight, aka Marc Spector, a mercenary who has numerous alter egos — cabbie Jake Lockley and millionaire playboy Steven Grant — in order to better fight the criminal underworld. But later he was established as being a conduit for the Egyptian moon god Khonshu. Most recently, the character was a consultant who dresses in all-white and goes by the name Mr. Knight.

The Ronin can independently confirm from our own sources that Budapest is indeed one of multiple locations being used for Moon Knight (working title Good Faith). A shoot in United Kingdom had been previously revealed last year along with an expectation before the pandemic of possibly shooting in the United States and Morocco (used for Black Widow) but those plans have yet to be made concrete.

Budapest is a popular production locale which has been used for Marvel’s Black Widow, Showtime’s Halo series, Blade Runner 2049, Legendary’s Dune remake, The Martian, Red Sparrow, Terminator: Dark Fate, Bloodshot, Gemini Man, Midsommar, and the first season of Netflix’s The Witcher.

Stefania Cella also posted on her website that she has officially joined Moon Knight as production designer working on the pilot and the series. Her film credits include Morbius, Downsizing, White Boy Rick, Lucy In The Sky, and Black Mass.

Oscar Isaac is reportedly in negotiations to play the role of Marc Spector aka Moon Knight, although, neither Disney nor Marvel has made an official announcement.

Egyptian director Mohamed Diab had been recently announced for the series.

Lost of casting is underway and there should be announcements via trades in the coming weeks.

Marvel Studios Movies Delayed Again As ‘Black Widow’ Heads To May 7th, ‘Shang-Chi’ To July 9th and ‘Eternals’ Moves To November 5th

Not so fast with those predictions of Black Widow heading to VOD or Disney+!

Disney has announced new release dates for multiple Marvel Studios films via Variety which include moving Black Widow from November 6th to May 7th, a move that will likely disappoint fans expecting the film to head to Disney+ by the end of the year.

Eternals also will move from February 12th, 2021 to November 5th, 2021 with Matthew Vaughn’s The King’s Man taking their old spot.

Shang-Chi & The Legend of The Ten Rings heads to July 9th, 2021 after Black Widow took it’s May 7th spot. The film is still shooting in Australia but seemingly won’t be getting as much of a delay as we had been bracing for all things considered.

There is a good chance that is way more visual effects work and possibly extra shooting that needs to be done on Eternals that would see the film getting bumped all the way to later part of 2021. The Deviants still haven’t been revealed by the studio who are most likely going to be motion-capture/CGI characters in the film.

Marvel Studios Reportedly Delaying Release of ‘Black Widow’ Again – Will It Take ‘Eternals’ Spot In February?

The blockbuster delays don’t seem will be stopping anytime soon as Variety is mentioning something we’ve all suspected since the summer that Black Widow isn’t likely going to be released on November 6th as previously planned, and foresee another delay is coming.

Disney will likely delay Black Widow, the superhero adventure from Marvel that was slated to open on Nov. 6, according to multiple individuals with knowledge of the situation.

The solo flick takes place between the events of Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War.

Unlike the Disney+ shows Black Widow has been completed for months and it really comes down to the recent fumble with the release of Tenet by Warner Bros., which saw some healthy returns overseas all things considering but a dismal $9.4 million opening weekend and a $6.7 second weekend for the Christopher Nolan. A key reason by Warner Bros. quickly moved Wonder Woman 1984 from October 2nd to December 25th, it’ll also signal other 2020 movies to jump ship.

While theaters are open audiences are opting not to return along with smaller capacities it is almost impossible for studios to make decent box office domestically and moving stuff into 2021 is just the smart play.

Fans have also been championing the Mulan model of dumping Black Widow on Disney+’s Premier Access, however, it doesn’t look like that faired well for Disney as the film didn’t make a lot of money in comparison to a traditional theatrical release and given its budget they’re likely not happy with the results. It’s was potentially due to the restricted access to the pricey $29.99 film was relegated only to Disney+ subscribers. The service skews younger than most would like to admit and given the economy, it’s a huge ask for people to spend that kind of money on a single film.

There is also the matter of Scarlett Johansson’s backend deal that would be completely erased if the film doesn’t get a theatrical release, that would see the actress possibly lose millions.

It wouldn’t be the first move for the Marvel flick as it had been originally planned as a May 1st release before the pandemic crushed the spring and summer movie season. Moving the action flick to the Eternals spot of February 12th, 2021 seems to be the more bankable date they’ll use given that Disney hasn’t even started to promote Eternals it allows them to slide Black Widow in that date.
