'Black Panther 3': Denzel Washington Teases Mystery Role In Ryan Coogler's MCU Sequel

‘Black Panther 3’: Denzel Washington Teases Mystery Role In Ryan Coogler’s MCU Sequel

While “Black Panther 3” has yet to be officially announced by writer/director Ryan Coogler, Marvel Studios, or Disney, the cat is seemingly out of the bag thanks to Oscar-winning actor Denzel Washington. During his promotion of “Gladiator II” in Australia, Washington told an interviewer on “Today” (See video clip below) about his limited upcoming projects, which included a role in Ryan Coogler’s “Black Panther 3.”

However, Washington stopped short of discussing what that part might be and whether it would be villainous or heroic. The role will certainly be thrown into the rumor mill until Marvel Studios officially announces what this might be. But it doesn’t look like that Dormmamu rumor will hold up anytime soon.

Btw, Wakanda is no longer just a futuristic african nation in the comics, it's an intergalactic empire now : r/TwoBestFriendsPlay

We’re still in the dark about what “Black Panther 3” could be about as Shuri, after defeating Namor, has left the throne to M’Baku and has discovered that T’Challa has a secret son with Naika. Could we see the ancestorial plane become a realm that can be traveled to, going to war with Doctor Doom, or the expansion of Wakanda into outer space via The Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda? Perhaps.

“Black Panther 3” had long been assumed as a project yet to be announced by the studio, and Washington’s comments certainly add fuel to them potentially having to announce those plans earlier than they would have wanted to. Of course, Coogler hasn’t made his live-action plans for the MCU public and recently reunited with Michael B. Jordan for the period vampire flick “Sinners.”

The last installment, “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” saw his “Malcolm X” co-star Angela Bassett nab a Best Supporting Actress Oscar nomination for her role as the matriarch of Wakanda’s royal family, which could potentially have something to do with Washington attaching himself to the project this early.

At one point, folks like myself mused about the potential of having Washington play Kang Prime after Jonathan Majors was fired from the role and “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty” was reconfigured into “Avengers: Doomsday” with Robert Downey Jr. playing Victor von Doom.

James Gunn Debunks Rumblings Of A 'Joker' Series With Barry Keoghan In Development

James Gunn Debunks Rumblings Of A ‘Joker’ Series With Barry Keoghan In Development

Not too long ago, there was a buzzy rumor about a “Mr. Freeze” movie being in development. Well, it didn’t take long for DC Studios‘ co-head James Gunn to take to the internet and pour cold water all over that one. Another project is being rumored that would see Barry Keoghan (“Saltburn”) reprise the Joker role from “The Batman” in a new series (not unlike “The Penguin“).

Gunn has now also disputed that tidbit as well on his official social media account.

“Turn on threads, and everyone is asking me about this. No, there is absolutely no truth to this. A Joker series is not being discussed, nor has [it] even come up at this time. Sorry,” Gunn announced on Threads.

Fake DC Comics project rumors will have a much harder time these days because Gunn will be asked about them directly by fans and will quickly denounce the bogus ones. Waiting until Gunn has chimed in before getting too excited as well could help ease the disappointment.

Keoghan’s return as the Joker has yet to be made official, although, given he’s currently residing in Arkham Asylum (a series was once in development in that setting) alongside The Riddler, a potential appearance in the next two films from writer/director Matt Reeves wouldn’t be entirely surprising. Even more interesting is the existing relationship between Barry and Colin Farrell (Oz Cobb, aka The Penguin), as the two Irish actors have previously worked together on “Killing of A Sacred Deer,” and “The Banshees of Inisherin” (the two had been living together during that shoot). In theory, having them work off each other as two Batman rogues would be something I’m sure many fans of their acting would like to see down the road (wishful thinking, it may be).

“The Penguin” is about to wrap up its first season on HBO/Max, and “The Batman: Part II” is set for release in theaters on October 2, 2026. Fans will just have to be patient to see if more series are indeed on their way to expand Reeves’ Gotham and Batman universe further.

Amazon's 'Fallout' Season 2 Adds Macaulay Culkin To The Post-Apocalypse Frey

‘Fallout’ Season 2 Adds Macaulay Culkin To The Post-Apocalypse Frey

One of the biggest surprises of 2024 was how fun and entertaining Amazon‘s “Fallout” series was, along with being able to properly adapt the satirical sci-fi video game world, which led it to become one of the more popular originals on the streaming service. “Fallout” season two has now added a familiar face to the call sheet as Macaulay Culkin has nabbed an unnamed part on the show.

While details of his character are limited, they did describe him as a “crazy genius,” which could mean more experiments gone wrong and wasteland creatures. Without spoiling the last season, the second one is expected to move from the Los Angeles area to New Vegas, the setting of an established video game.

Culkin now joins Ella Purnell, Aaron Moten, Walton Goggins, Kyle MacLachlan, Moisés Arias, Sarita Choudhury, Michael Emerson, Leslie Uggams, Frances Turner, Dave Register, Zach Cherry, Johnny Pemberton, Rodrigo Luzzi, Annabel O’Hagan, and Xelia Mendes-Jones.

Macaulay Culkin, Walton Goggins | Pressroom

The former child actor and sibling of Kieran Culkin (“Succession”) has been getting back into the acting world more frequently lately, showing up on TV projects recently like “American Horror Story” and “Righteous Gemstones.” Funny enough, in the latter, he plays the estranged son of Walton Goggins’ goofy televangelist character, Baby Billy Freeman, which could be a strong reason he’s been added to the new season of “Fallout,” given that Goggins plays a significant lead in the series after nabbing an Emmy nomination (one of 16 the show earned for season one) thanks to his portrayal of the Ghoul.

“Based on one of the greatest video game series of all time, Fallout is the story of haves and have-nots in a world in which there’s almost nothing left to have. 200 years after the apocalypse, the gentle denizens of luxury fallout shelters are forced to return to the irradiated hellscape their ancestors left behind — and are shocked to discover an incredibly complex, gleefully weird and highly violent universe waiting for them.”

New 'Star Wars' Film Trilogy In Development From 'Rebels' Co-Creator Simon Kinberg

New ‘Star Wars’ Film Trilogy In Development From ‘Rebels’ Co-Creator Simon Kinberg

While we’re still waiting to get more concrete updates on “Star Wars” films from directors Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (“Ms. Marvel”) and Dave Filoni (“Ahsoka”), another big franchise tidbit has made it’s way online. Simon Kinberg, who co-created “Star Wars: Rebels” with Filoni, is reportedly being tasked to write and produce a new trilogy of “Star Wars” for the studio. The news hails from Deadline and others like THR are suggesting this won’t be a continuation of The Skywalker Saga (something Deadline is claiming), but rather something fresh expected to follow a string of new characters with the door being left open for established characters (although, that could change in the coming weeks and months).

Kinberg’s secretive “Star Wars” trilogy is part of a growing wave of projects Lucasfilm has put into play, we’ll see if this actually comes together. Another likely option akin to a lot of other would-be installments, this ends up in development limbo or gets quietly bumped off. One idea could be that Lucasfilm is finally ready to jump feet first into “The Old Republic” era of “Star Wars” that has been explored in Legends via comic books and video games, but not in hard canon live-action projects.

Why we’re not terribly thrilled with this news as James Mangold (“Logan”), Patty Jenkins (“Wonder Woman”), Rian Johnson (“Star Wars: The Last Jedi”), Taika Waititi (“Thor: Ragnarök”), and Shawn Levy (“Deadpool & Wolverine”) have already been announced to have their own “Star Wars” films in development but nothing of substance has really materialized other than some details on Mangold’s project, “Star Wars: Dawn of The Jedi,” seemingly being a Jedi origin film taking place thousands of years before the events of “The Old Republic.” There had also been talk from Stephen Glover that the “Lando” series with Donald Glover (“Solo: A Star Wars Story”) back in the titular role would be morphing into a feature film, however, it’s been a while since we’ve had an update on that one either.

The next big theatrical release for “Star Wars” is “The Mandalorian & Grogu” from director Jon Favreau and is expected to hit the big screen on May 22, 2026. A continuation of the Disney+ series “The Mandalorian.” Actress Daisy Ridley is expected to reprise the role of Rey Skywalker for “Star Wars: New Jedi Order,” from the aforementioned Obaid-Chinoy. It remains to be seen if “New Jedi Order,” “Dawn of The Jedi,” or Filoni’s pic will end up nabbing the other tentative “Star Wars” release date of December 18, 2026.

More recently Kinberg is producing Edgar Wright’s remake of “The Running Man.”

His return to the “Star Wars” universe is certainly a mixed bag given Kinberg’s contribution to “Rebels” (a popular animated series that saw characters make the jump to live-action) but also having a wonky track record with his Marvel movies. You might be more familiar with Kinberg’s work at 20th Century Fox as he was heavily involved with their Marvel films including less-than-stellar projects like “Dark Phoenix” (Kinberg directed and was his second time adapting “The Dark Phoenix Saga”), the long forgotten “Fantastic Four” reboot, “X-Men: The Last Stand,” and “New Mutants.” At the same time, he helped on the “Deadpool” films, “X-Men: First Class,” X-Men: Days of Future Past,” and “Logan.”

We’ll keep our fingers crossed this isn’t Lucasfilm/Disney just adding another distraction announcement to the pile as something is being ready for the chopping block.

'The Running Man': Emilia Jones & Michael Cera Join Glen Powell In Edgar Wright's Sci-Fi Action Remake

‘The Running Man’: Emilia Jones & Michael Cera Join Glen Powell In Edgar Wright’s Sci-Fi Action Remake

Filming on Edgar Wright‘s book-accurate take on “The Running Man” is expected to begin in London early next year, and the British filmmaker is rounding out his cast for the Stephen King adaptation. According to The Hollywood Reporter, new actors have joined the action sci-fi pic, as both Emilia Jones (“Locke & Key,” “CODA”) and Michael Cera (“Barbie”) nabbed key parts. This bit of casting makes for a “Scott Pilgrim” reunion, given that Wright and Cera previously worked on that comic book flick and the revival anime series “Scott Pilgrim: Takes Off” on Netflix.

Other recent additions to the remake’s call-sheet include Josh Brolin (“Deadpool 2,” “Sicario,” “Avengers: Endgame”), Lee Pace (“Foundation,” “The Hobbit” trilogy, “Guardians of The Galaxy”), Katy O’Brien (“The Mandalorian,” “Love Lies Bleeding,” ‘Ant-Man 3″), and Jayme Lawson (“The Batman,” “How To Blow Up A Pipeline”).

This new film is expected to see Ben Richards (Powell), a desperate father looking to care for his sickly daughter, and in that desperation, becomes a contestant on a deadly game show in the hopes of earning money to pay for the daughter’s care/recovery from an illness. The previous incarnation saw Richards, a police officer, framed for a massacre he didn’t commit and escape a high-tech prison only to wind up on the game show after being captured at an airport.

Of course, the original film was praised and remembered for its satirical tone, which is expected to carry over given Wright’s comedic career, even if not all the plot elements and characters will.

Jones is expected to play a role not too dissimilar to the Amber Mendez part that was portrayed by actress María Conchita Alonso in the original movie that starred Arnold Schwarzenegger. In that film, the character works for the network and is kidnapped by Richards only to eventually help him, in turn, she ends up a forced contestant herself.

While Cera is expected to play a rebel, possibly taking cues from Marvin J. McIntyre’s tech-savvy role of Weiss.

“The Running Man” will be released by Paramount Pictures on November 21, 2025. Earlier that month, we’ll see the return of the “Predator” franchise to the big screen with “Predator: Badlands” coming out on November 7.

'Spider-Man 4': Tom Holland Says Sequel Helmed By Destin Daniel Cretton Shoots This Summer

Sony Slates ‘Spider-Man 4’ For Prime Summer Release On July 24, 2026

The other day, Tom Holland not only revealed he has been reading a script for “Spider-Man 4” but confirmed on “The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon” that they aim to begin shooting in the summer of 2025. We had previously learned in September that “Shang-Chi & The Legend of The Ten Rings” director Destin Daniel Cretton (“American Born Chinese”) would be taking the reins from Jon Watts after exiting “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty,” wrapping on the upcoming MCU series “Wonder Man” starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (“Watchmen”), and actively working on a “Shang-Chi” sequel (Marvel Studios is obviously extremely happy with the director’s output for them).

Another exciting tidbit has been announced: Sony Pictures finally gave “Spider-Man 4” a proper release date of July 24, 2026. A couple of months after the release of The Russo Brothers’ “Avengers: Doomsday,” which is set for May 1, 2026, where there is an expectation we’ll see Holland shoot scenes as both films are said to be mainly shooting in the United Kingdom. The two productions being in such close proximity should make cross-pollination between the MCU projects a lot easier than if they had been shot in different countries.

Cretton is certainly an excellent choice as Marvel Studios obviously sees a partner in the filmmaker, and we’ll see how many “Spider-Man” installments he’ll end up making for them. There was plenty of great action, romance, heart, and charm in “Shang-Chi,” which could easily rub off on “Spider-Man 4.” Also, given the reworking of villains The Mandarin and Dr. Fu Manchu into Wenwu from Cretton, there is some promise we’ll get a fantastic villain as well (The Prowler, Kingpin, The Hand, The Maggia, Scorpion, and Vulture are all suitable choices).

Of course, this is a prime spot for the fourth installment but a bit of a change-up from the previous holiday release for “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” which saw the trilogy capper earn Sony a hefty $1.95 billion at the international box office. The Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures collaboration on these solo “Spider-Man” films has been extremely lucrative, with the previous trilogy amassing an impressive combined $2.9 billion.

Meanwhile, the Sonyverse is having a bit of a tough time with critics, and projects like “Morbius” and “Madame Web” turning into punchlines while they had disastrous outings (essentially rejected by audiences). On deck for Sony are “Venom: The Last Dance” (getting mixed to negative reactions in some early press screenings) and “Kraven The Hunter,” while other spinoff productions haven’t been announced for the near future.

20th Century Studios Confirms Fede Álvarez In Talks For 'Alien: Romulus' Sequel & Tease New Direction For "Probable" 'Alien Vs. Predator' Movie

20th Century Studios Confirms Fede Álvarez In Talks For ‘Alien: Romulus’ Sequel & Tease New Direction For “Probable” ‘Alien Vs. Predator’ Movie

Alien: Romulus” is more or less a bonafide hit for both 20th Century Studios and Disney, earning a solid $350.7 million on a budget reportedly in the range of $80-100 million. Making it the second highest-grossing film in the franchise behind Ridley Scott’s “Prometheus from 2012 and has led most of us to suspect that director Fede Álvarez could come back to make the sequel. 20th Century’s Steve Asbell spoke with The Hollywood Reporter on the state of the studio’s upcoming slate of franchise installments and confirmed to the outlet that they are in active talks with the filmmaker about tackling a sequel.

Of course, there is an expectation that “Alien: Romulus” breakout stars Cailee Spaeny and David Jonsson will return to reprise their roles, given the popularity of both Rain and Andy and how the ending would sort of tee up another installment. Something Asbell alludes to while musing about the potential of making a second film with Álvarez.

“We’re working on a sequel idea now,” Asbell told THR about their current plans for the feature film side of the “Alien” franchise. “We haven’t quite closed our deal with Fede [Alvarez], but we are going to, and he has an idea that we’re working on. The two survivors, Rain and Andy, played by Cailee Spaeny and David Jonsson, were real highlights of the film. And so I always think of it like, “Wow, where do people want to see them go next?” We know there’s going to be aliens. We know there’s going to be great horror set pieces. But I fell in love with both of them, and I want to see what their story is.”

In that same interview, we also learned that Dan Trachtenberg directed two new “Predator” movies, including “Predator: Badlands,” which will be released on November 7, 2025. You might remember that during the promotional tour for “Alien: Romulus,” Álvarez pitched the idea of co-directing a new “Alien Vs. Predator” movie, aka “AVP 3,” with Trachtenberg.

Asbell said they’d “probably” make another “AVP” movie down the line. But also briefly teased what their approach would be with any new attempt at making a new “AVP” installment, saying, “It wouldn’t be in the way you think. That’s the thing. Not in the way that it will just be called ‘Alien vs. Predator’ or anything like the original movies. If we do this, they’ll be organically created out of these two franchises that we’ve continued with characters that we fall in love with, and those characters will combine…perhaps. But we haven’t gotten to that point. And we’re not just going to bang it out.”

The last two films were contemporary Earthbound stories that stripped away the big sci-fi elements from the comics, video games, and toy lines that made the crossover property popular in the first place. Having the alien, predator, and The Colonial Marines are thrown into an off-world setting to battle it out. We’ve already mentioned some ideas of how the studio could tackle a reboot of the “AVP” franchise and ways to potentially connect it to the new “Alien” and “Predator” movies at the same time.

Alien: Earth,” the upcoming streaming series, will debut on Hulu/Disney+ sometime in 2025 and should give fans some meaty material before this potential “Romulus” sequel is ready for audiences.

Dan Trachtenberg Directed Secret 'Predator' Movie Coming Out Before The 'Predator: Badlands' Release In November 2025

Dan Trachtenberg Directed Secret ‘Predator’ Movie Coming Out Before The ‘Predator: Badlands’ Release In November 2025

After the high praise and positive audience reaction to Dan Trachtenberg‘s “Prey,” a period film set within the greater “Predator” franchise, 20th Century Studios and Disney pushed forward with a second film titled Predator: Badlands starring Elle Fanning (now confirmed) in the main role after having such success with Amber Midthunder leading the last installment. However, there is actually even more coming. Steve Asbell of 20th Century Studios recently spoke with The Hollywood Reporter and revealed that the filmmaker has directed TWO “Predator” movies, not just one installment.

“I’ll tell you very simply. After ‘Prey’ became a success, Dan [Trachtenberg] came back and said he didn’t want to do ‘Prey 2.’ And we’re like, “What do you want to do?” And he rattled off a bunch of ideas that were really crazy but really cool. We’ve actually done two of them. Two are coming out next year. One I can’t talk about yet, but the other one is the live-action ‘Predator‘ film with Elle Fanning that just wrapped in New Zealand. That’ll be out theatrically sometime next year,” Asbell told THR in a one-on-one interview about the future of the studio’s big franchises.

He added, “There’s a secret Predator movie that will come out before the theatrical one, but I can’t say anything about it yet.”

I think we can infer from these quotes that this “secret” film is likely heading to Hulu since Asbell is quite specific about “Yes, a ‘Predator’ movie will have a theatrical [release].” This doesn’t exactly suggest this second project coming out before “Predator: Badlands” will be in theaters, too. Then again, you have to assume that Hulu and Disney were hellbent on getting another “Predator” property on the platform alongside the upcoming “Alien: Earth” series from Noah Hawley.

“Predator: Badlands” already has an official theatrical release date of November 7, 2025, and would be the first film from the franchise to grace the big screen since Shane Black’s long-forgotten attempt, “The Predator.” Again, we shouldn’t be surprised if this other movie ends up being a Hulu exclusive release.

'Spider-Man 4': Tom Holland Says Sequel Helmed By Destin Daniel Cretton Shoots This Summer

‘Spider-Man 4’: Tom Holland Says Sequel Helmed By Destin Daniel Cretton Shoots This Summer

After previously talking about reading a “Spider-Man 4” script, British actor Tom Holland has finally made the first big official announcement for the fourth MCU installment after Destin Daniel Cretton (“Shang-Chi & The Legend of The Ten Rings,” “Wonder Man”) boarded as the film’s director.

Holland took a much-deserved sabbatical from filmmaking and is ready to make a big return to feature films in 2025. He went on to speak with Jimmy Fallon on “The Tonight Show” (See below) and revealed that not only is “Spider-Man 4” moving forward but will begin shooting sometime in the “summer” (backing up previous rumblings of a delay to the summer).

Recently, The Russo Brothers revealed to Collider that “Avengers: Doomsday” would start filming in the spring (ahead of “Spider-Man 4” and a bit of a delay between when they would pick back up with “Avengers: Secret Wars“). While many folks think that Holland might be too busy to shoot scenes for the “Avengers” installment, it’s said the two Marvel Studios productions would be shot in the United Kingdom, making cross-pollination that much easier for Holland. So, while Peter Parker might not be a centric figure in “Doomsday,” nothing says Marvel won’t be able to figure out a shooting schedule to make it all work, placing Holland in all three films (“Spider-Man 4,” “Avengers: Doomsday,” and “Avengers: Secret Wars”).

There have been plenty of rumors about “Spider-Man 4” being connected to “Venom: The Last Dance,” however, given a new streak of poor to mixed reactions to the third flick (set in the Sonyverse, not MCU), that idea doesn’t sound terribly advised. However, nothing says that the black suit/symbiote won’t eventually make its entry into the greater Marvel Cinematic Universe, as Parker originally got the suit upgrade during the off-world events of “Secret Wars.” There could be other ways of introducing it without the Multiverse gimmick being the angle (via NASA or “Fantastic Four,” maybe?).

What we do know is that Parker will be living on his own in the big city and heading to college. This would allow Marvel to introduce the MCU versions of characters like Gwen Stacy, Harry Osborn, Dr. Curt Connors, Norman Osborn, Dr. Otto Octavius, Robbie Robertson, Eddie Brock, and Felicia Hardy.

As it stands, Holland, Zendaya, and Jacob Batalon are the only existing franchise cast members expected to return, and there is more of a question mark concerning Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau) and Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch). Although it’s likely they’ll show up in some capacity.

Given Spidey’s backyard is New York City and the proximity to “Daredevil: Born Again,” it would seem like a missed opportunity for Marvel not to make a true team-up film with Charlie Cox‘s Daredevil, given Matt Murdock did briefly appear as Peter Parker’s lawyer in “Spider-Man: No Way Home” and would be operating as a street-level superhero (already bumping into Jennifer Walters in “She-Hulk”).

It’s also worth mentioning that Marvel can now finally pit Spider-Man against his longtime criminal underworld foe, Wilson Fisk, aka The Kingpin, after using him in “Hawkeye,” “Echo,” and the aforementioned “Daredevil: Born Again.” One element we’d like to see the franchise return to is the crime-fighting roots, which could see Parker go up against the likes of The Hand (aligned with The Kingpin) and The Maggia (Marvel’s version of the mafia).

We still don’t know who the villain will be despite previous seeds planted for Donald Glover to become The Prowler (Miles Morales’s uncle), along with established villains The Vulture (Michael Keaton) and Scorpion (Michale Mando), seemingly still in prison.

Sony Pictures has yet to give “Spider-Man 4” an official release date, but that will likely change in the coming months. Holland was recently revealed to be in talks for a lead role opposite Matt Damon in Christopher Nolan’s mystery film at Universal Pictures that will be out on July 17, 2026.

You can watch that full exchange between Holland and Fallon below.

Tom Holland Eyed For Lead Role In Christopher Nolan's Mystery Film Shooting Early Next Year

Tom Holland Eyed For Lead Role In Christopher Nolan’s Mystery Film Shooting Early Next Year

While British actor Tom Holland recently took a sabbatical from feature film work to do a run of “Romeo & Juliet” on stage, he’s filling up his dance card nicely. His next big project looks to be finally connecting with Christopher Nolan, who is making an untitled mystery film at Universal Pictures that had Matt Damon (“Oppenheimer”) expected to star. A new report from Deadline says that Holland is also circling a lead part in the project and is reportedly aiming to begin “shooting in early 2025.”

The next Nolan pic has already landed a July 17, 2026, release date from Univeral ahead of the film’s production start.

The Hollywood Reporter also reveals that delays on “Spider-Man 4” are potentially the reason why Denis Villeneuve‘s “Dune Messiah” isn’t likely to shoot until 2026, backing up recent comments made by the director. Zendaya, of course, is expected to have major roles in both blockbusters. This all would suggest that the fourth installment won’t be hitting an early 2025 production start after there had been some rumblings online about a push into the summer.

It’s still yet to be confirmed if Holland is even going to be participating in “Avengers: Doomsday” or “Avengers: Secret Wars,” let alone the scale of his role in the massive two-part superhero ensemble event film. More realistic for Holland to have simply the same scale role he had in the two previous “Avengers” installments, and it’s lucky on the part of Marvel Studios that all three MCU movies will be shot in proximity of each other in the United Kingdom, making shooting scenes between projects much more logistical for the actor.
