Christopher Nolan’s ‘Tenet’ Officially Delayed To August 12th – Will Warner Bros. Move It Again?

Warner Bros. has flinched for a second time as they’ve officially delayed Christopher Nolan’s mind-bending action blockbuster from July 31st to August 12th.

Tenet had originally been set for release on July 17th.

This comes after the state of New York removed movie theaters from Phase 4 of reopening and multiple states across the United States seeing record breaking numbers of new cases including Texas and Florida surpassing 5,500+ per day.

However, it hasn’t scared the studio enough to push the film out of the summer entirely as they’re essentially bumping the release date a less than two weeks from it’s previous date. There had been reports that Christopher Nolan had been head-strong with the studio making demands to keep the release date in July, despite the coronavirus being extremely deadly and theaters potentially being places where it can spread like wildfire.

Theaters almost attempted to reopen without mandatory masks for patrons until a handful of them noticed the backlash from that weak safety policy.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the studio delayed the film to the fall or winter.

TENET – John David Washington is the new Protagonist in Christopher Nolan’s original sci-fi action spectacle “Tenet.” Armed with only one word—Tenet—and fighting for the survival of the entire world, the Protagonist journeys through a twilight world of international espionage on a mission that will unfold in something beyond real time. Not time travel. Inversion.

Michael Keaton’s Bruce Wayne May Also Join ‘Batgirl’ Movie – Could Become DC’s Nick Fury

It sounds like Michael Keaton’s Bruce Wayne will be replacing Ben Affleck in the DC Comics Cinematic/Expanded Universe as The Hollywood Reporter is adding in their version of the Flash news that he is expected to also possibly join the Batgirl film among other films.

But wait, there’s more. If a deal makes, Keaton wouldn’t just return for Flash but possibly for several other DC-oriented film projects. Sources tell THR that the role being envisioned for the veteran actor is akin to the role played by Samuel Jackson as Nick Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, something of a mentor or guide or even string puller. Batgirl is one the projects in development that could fall under that win.

This sort of sounds like they’re going to do Batman Beyond with a female protege instead, which sounds kind of badass to me.

However, this seems to be only in the early stages and fans need to be open to the idea this won’t come together.

If Keaton is going to become the main version of Bruce Wayne this would suggest that Robert Pattinson’s Batman might be taking place outside of the Expanded Universe, similar to how the Christopher Nolan films were their own thing.

‘Dune’ Officially Returning To Budapest For Additional Photography In August

Deadline has revealed that Denis Villeneuve’s Dune will be returning to Budapest, Hungary to film an unknown amount of additional photography. The film is the latest adaptation of the sci-fi novels written by Frank Herbert.

Filming had previously taken place at Origo Film Studios in Budapest along with exterior shoots in Norway and Jordan.

DUNE – A mythic and emotionally charged hero’s journey, “Dune” tells the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence—a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential—only those who can conquer their fear will survive.

It’s cast includes Timothee Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Dave Bautista, Stellan Skarsgard, Charlotte Rampling, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, Jason Momoa, Zendaya, and David Dastmalchian.

Legendary is already developing a sequel will act as Part 2 of the first novel with screenwriter Jon Spaihts currently working on the script. There is also an HBO Max series in the works titled Dune: The Sisterhood.

The release date has been set for December 18th, but with all the various shifting dates for Warner Bros. movies, it’s hard to assume that they’ll ultimately stick to that holiday spot.

Warner Bros. Delays The Releases of ‘Tenet’, ‘Wonder Woman 1984’, ‘Godzilla vs. Kong’, and ‘Matrix 4’

Despite adamant exhibitors and industry folk alike that had been betting big on Christopher Nolan’s Tenet sticking to it’s original July 17th release date, Warner Bros. announced yesterday the science fiction espionage film would be getting a slight delay (two weeks) opening instead on July 31st.

The studio has also moved other tentpole releases to other dates as well.

Wonder Woman 1984 has yet again been delayed (landing its fourth release date) moving from August 14th to October 2nd.

Godzilla vs. Kong which had been given a release date of November 20th has been bumped to next year and will be coming out on May 21st, 2021.

That May spot was originally intended for Matrix 4, which has been delayed as well given a new date of April 1st, 2022. Matrix 4, unlike the other films, hasn’t even completed production and is expected to resume filming in Germany sometime soon.

While most people are just assuming that Tenet will still be able to release next month as planned, the studio has now secured two open spots with August 14th and November 20th after these latest date shifts. Giving the studio two potential buffer dates if they wanted to delay it even further beyond two weeks.

There is also still the slim possibility that Dune’s December 18th spot could get gobbled-up as well. I could see a handful of unfinished films meant to be released in 2021, like Spider-Man 3 and The Batman (has only shot 25% of it’s scenes) delayed into 2022, just like Matrix 4.

I don’t think we’re quite finished with the musical chairs just yet as there are growing concerns that the second wave of COVID could be bubbling in the United States in the near future as multiple states are seeing a rise in new cases.

This on the heels of stubborn theater chains opening this weekend and attempting to open an even larger number of locations next month. Seems like the industry is eager to get things rolling even if it’s neither wise of safe to do so.

Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss Cite Strong Script As Why They Returned For ‘Matrix 4’

I think we were all shocked when a fourth installment in the Matrix franchise was announced with original cast members returning to their roles after rumblings of a possible prequel or reboot being in the works with a Young Morpheus.

Carrie-Anne Moss and Keanu Reeves recently spoke with Empire dishing that they were both impressed with the script for Matrix 4 penned by Lana Wachowski, David Mitchell, and Aleksandar Hemon. Citing the script as a key reason for why they were willing to return to their respective roles of Trinity and Neo.

MOSS: “When it was brought to me in the way that it was brought to me, with incredible depth and all of the integrity and artistry that you could imagine, I was like, ‘This is a gift.’ It was just very exciting.”

Reeves echoes Moss’ comments on the script and adding that he was eager to work with director Lana Wachowski again.

REEVES: “Lana Wachowski wrote a beautiful script and a wonderful story that resonated with me. That’s the only reason to do it. To work with her again is just amazing. It’s been really special, and the story has, I think, some meaningful things to say, and that we can take some nourishment from.”

Filming had moved onto the German leg of the production after tackling some scenes shot in San Francisco, California before the Coronavirus pandemic paused things and there had been some suggestion that they’d resume sometime soon.

The rest of the cast includes Jada Pinkett Smith returning as Niobe, Jessica Henwick (Godzilla vs Kong, Iron Fist, Star Wars: The Force Awakens) playing a new Neo-like character, Neil Patrick Harris (Starship Troopers, Gone Girl), Toby Onwumere, Erendira Ibarra (Sense8), Ellen Hollman (Into The Badlands), and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Watchmen, Aquaman).

Originally, Warner Bros. had given Matrix 4 a release date of May 21st, 2020 and a new date is most likely going to be announced shortly.

Keanu Reeves is set to shoot John Wick: Chapter 4 once they complete filming on the Matrix sequel.
