Ryan Gosling and Director David Leitch Team On Stuntman Drama For Universal – Penned By ‘Iron Man 3’ Screenwriter Drew Pearce

Deadline is reporting actor Ryan Gosling has signed on to star in an untitled stuntman drama for Universal Pictures that will be directed by David Leitch (John Wick, Atomic Blonde, Deadpool 3) from a script penned by Drew Pearce (Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, Iron Man 3, Hotel Artemis, Hobbs & Shaw).

Plot details on the project are currently tight-lipped but Ryan previously played a stuntman in the thriller Drive for director Nicolas Winding Refn.

Universal landed the project with a seven-figure deal after reported interest from Netflix, Paramount Pictures, and MGM Studios.

Leitch is currently making the Brad Pitt action flick Bullet Train for Sony Pictures.

Gosling recently attached himself to a new Wolfman film from Invisible Man writer/director Leigh Whannell that is at Universal Pictures as well.

Ryan is also set to co-star with Captain America actor Chris Evans on the Netflix spy thriller The Gray Man directed by The Russo Brothers, one of the most expensive films ever produced at the streaming service.

Russo Bros. To Direct Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans In Netflix’s $200M+ Budgeted Spy Flick ‘The Gray Man’ – Eyeing January Start In L.A.

Deadline reports that the Russo Brothers have chosen their next directorial effort after tackling the bank robbery film Cherry starring Tom Holland.

The Avengers: Endgame directors will tackle The Gray Man for Netflix, a spy film with a budget reportedly over $200 million making it the most expensive film at the streaming service to date. Adding that heavy-hitters Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans have been set to take the lead roles.

AGBO will also produce the action flick.

The action thriller is a deadly duel between killers as Court Gentry (Gosling) is hunted across the globe by Lloyd Hansen (Evans), a former cohort of Gentry’s at the CIA.

The script based on the Mark Greaney novel was penned by Joe Russo with some rewrites from Captain America franchise writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.

To those who lurk in the shadows, he’s known as the Gray Man. He is a legend in the covert realm, moving silently from job to job, accomplishing the impossible and then fading away. And he always hits his target. Always. But there are forces more lethal than Gentry in the world. Forces like money. And power. And there are men who hold these as the only currency worth fighting for. And in their eyes, Gentry has just outlived his usefulness.

But Court Gentry is going to prove that, for him, there’s no gray area between killing for a living and killing to stay alive…

They’re hoping to begin filming next January in Los Angeles, California and various international locations yet to be determined. However, COVID-19 could cause issues for the project and we’ll be interested to see if they stick to shooting the film in the United States.

The project seems to be Netflix trying it’s best to wiggle-out of the wave of original films that look extremely generic despite their hefty budgets. Hiring the directors of the most successful film at the box office might payoff.

Also, there are nine novels in The Gray Man series which would allow Netflix/AGBO to turn the project into a franchise.

Ryan Gosling is attached for Universal’s Wolfman reboot from writer/director Leigh Whannell.

Director Leigh Whannell Following Up ‘Invisible Man’ With Universal’s ‘Wolfman’ Remake Starring Ryan Gosling

It looks like Blumhouse and Universal Pictures has found the director for their upcoming Wolfman reboot starring Canadian actor Ryan Gosling (Blade Runner 2049).

Deadline reports that Leigh Whannell has been tapped and is currently negotiating to direct.

Leigh gave Universal their post-Dark Universe hit with Universal Monsters character The Invisible Man, the modern remake of the H.G. Wells story. That success likely is behind the reason why Universal/Blumhouse wanted him to tackle another iconic monster like the wolfman.

Whannell wrote the treatment with Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo tackling the script.

There had been some previous comparisons to thriller Nightcrawler and will have a modern setting.

When filming is expected to begin is a little unclear.

‘The Martian’ Screenwriter Drew Goddard Joins Lord and Miller’s Sci-Fi Film ‘Project Hail Mary’ – Ryan Gosling Stars

Screenwriter Drew Goddard is reportedly returning to the world of novelist Andy Weir, previously landing an Oscar-nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay after adapting the novel The Martian for director Ridley Scott.

The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Goddard will be tackling a second Weir adaptation with Project Hail Mary. MGM recently spent an impressive $3 million to secure a deal for the science fiction film that has Ryan Gosling attached for the lead role with Chris Miller and Phil Lord directing.

Centers on an astronaut who wakes up to find himself millions of miles away from home, in a tiny craft with two dead crewmates for company, with no recollection of his mission or even his name. But this man will soon discover he is humanity’s only hope for survival from an extinction-level threat.

Goddard is a director himself as he made The Cabin In The Woods and Bad Times At The El Royale. He had been previously attached to direct Marvel projects such as Sony’s Spider-Man spinoff Sinister Six and X-Men/Deadpool spinoff X-Force, those projects have since fell into development limbo.

Project Hail Mary seems like a perfect paring of creatives and I think it could end up extremely special.

Ryan Gosling Attached To Universal’s ‘Wolfman’ Reboot

Yesterday, it was reported by Variety that actor Ryan Gosling (Blade Runner 2049, Drive, The Nice Guys) is now attached to lead Universal Pictures’ Wolfman reboot. The film is said to be seeking a director with the new horror film set during present time and expected to take tone cues from the thriller Nightcrawler.

One of the directors in the mix is Bad Education’s Cory Finley.

Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo wrote the film’s script which is based on a pitch from Gosling.

Universal Pictures had attempted to quickly craft their own cinematic universe with the Dark Universe featuring their classic horror characters. They ended up having to scrap the entire thing after the horrible box office and critical reaction to Tom Cruise’s Mummy reboot directed by Alex Kurtzman. Instead, the studio decided to try something different which led to them hiring Upgrade’s Leigh Whannel to write and direct a brand new version of The Invisible Man for them.

Action star Dwayne Johnson at one time was connected for a previous incarnation of the Wolfman.

It will certainly be interesting to see if they’ll employ traditional makeup effects for their new werewolf special effects or cop-out to use CGI visual effects that would lessen the impact of the iconic horror character on-screen.

Joe Johnston (Captain America: The First Avenger) directed the 2010 film which starred Beneicio Del Toro, Anthony Hopkins, Emily Blunt, and Hugo Weaving.

A timeline of when they plan to begin production or release the Wolfman is unclear at this time.
