EXCLUSIVE: Daisy Ridley Thriller ‘The Marsh King’s Daughter’ Adds ‘Sunshine’ & ‘Hanna’ Cinematographer Alwin Küchler

The Ronin can confirm that German cinematographer Alwin Küchler has joined the upcoming Neil Burger-directed thriller The Marsh King’s Daughter. The pic begins shooting this month in Toronto with Star Wars actors Daisy Ridley and Ben Mendelsohn (Animal Kingdom, Killing Them Softly) taking main roles.

Helena Pelletier has a loving husband, two beautiful daughters, and a business that fills her days. But she also has a secret: she is the product of an abduction. Her mother was kidnapped as a teenager by her father and kept in a remote cabin in the marshlands of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Helena, born two years after the abduction, loved her home in nature, and despite her father’s sometimes brutal behavior, she loved him, too…until she learned precisely how savage he could be. More than twenty years later, she has buried her past so soundly that even her husband doesn’t know the truth. But now her father has killed two guards, escaped from prison, and disappeared into the marsh. The police begin a manhunt, but Helena knows they don’t stand a chance. Knows that only one person has the skills to find the survivalist the world calls the Marsh King–because only one person was ever trained by him: his daughter.

His feature film credits include Joe Wright’s Hanna, Neil Burger’s Divergent, Danny Boyle films Sunshine and Steve Jobs alongside additional photography for Netflix’s Project Power. Alwin recently worked on the MARV Films’ video game development biopic Tetris directed by Jon S. Baird (Filth) and stars Taron Edgerton (Rocketman, Eddie The Eagle, Kingsman 1-2).

Writers Mark L. Smith (Overlord, The Revenant, The Midnight Sky) and Elle Smith adapted the Karen Dionne novel for the screen. Mark was also working with Quentin Tarantino to develop a Star Wars film for Paramount that seemingly has stalled.

Mendelsohn will reprise his Marvel Cinematic Universe role, Talos, in the Disney+ series Secret Invasion. The Marvel sci-fi show will focus on the shape-shifting Skrulls replacing superheroes as the aliens attempt to invade Earth. It’s possible he’ll also appear in Nia DaCosta’s Captain Marvel sequel, The Marvels.

A release date for The Marsh King’s Daughter hasn’t been set.

Mark Millar Announces Oscar-Winner Emerald Fennell Has Finished Writing Her Draft For The ‘Nemesis’ Movie

It was recently reported that Promising Young Woman’s Emerald Fennell would be tackling a script for a feature film focusing on DC Comics heroine Zatanna for producer J.J. Abrams.

Now, Mark Millar has announced/confirmed on Forbidden Planet TV’s YouTube channel that the Oscar-winning screenwriter will also pen the Nemesis movie based on his mature comic book published by Icon Comics for Warner Bros. as well and revealing that Fennell finished her draft before winning the Oscar last month. Nemesis has been in development for years and seemingly stuck in development hell until this announcement.

Fennell was reportedly attached to the film last year as mentioned by Collider back in August. The outlet also added that Project Power’s Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman are directing.

It’s interesting that Warner Bros. is making the project because the crux of the comic was “What if Batman was The Joker?” and seemingly ruffled feathers over at DC Comics. Most of Millar’s work is parodying existing comic book characters and franchises then placing them in mature hyper-violent settings.

At one point. Joe Carnahan (The Grey) was attached to write and direct.

Millar’s comics such as Kick-Ass, Kingsman, Wanted, and Jupiter’s Legacy have all been adapted to live-action alongside a Millarworld deal with Netflix. Screenwriter Jane Goldman (X-Men: First Class) previously helped adapt Millar’s comics Kick-ass and Kingsman to the big screen.

‘Judas & The Black Messiah’ Actress Dominique Fishback Joins Anthony Ramos With Lead Role In Paramount’s Next ‘Transformers’ Movie

Yesterday, it was revealed by Deadline that Paramount has hired Judas & The Black Messiah actress Dominique Fishback for a leading role in their next Transformers alongside Anthony Ramos (In The Heights) as production is expected to take place in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

Details on the project is scarce but Collider had mentioned that the film will feature Optimus Prime, the leader of the Autobots. It will be directed by Creed II’s Steven Cable Jr. from a script penned by Joby Harold (Obi-Wan Kenobi).

The Transformers franchise is in interesting place as the studio is coming of a soft-reboot with Bumblebee and seemingly are attempting to move beyond the Michael Bay era. They’re also reportedly working on a Cybertron film and another one adapted the CGI series Beast Wars, the latter focused on a group of Autobots that transformed into Earthbound animals instead of vehicles.

Transformers is set for release by Paramount Pictures for June 24, 2022.
