Watch First-Look Trailer For Paul Verhoeven’s 17th Century Italian-Set Erotic Lesbian Nun Movie ‘Benedetta’ – Premiering At Cannes This Summer

Dutch filmmaker Paul Verhoeven has had one of the more interesting directorial careers moving between multiple different genres with satirical sci-fi action outings like RoboCop, Starship Troopers and Total Recall alongside thrillers like Basic Instinct, Elle, and Black Book. He’s set to return with his erotic nun movie Benedetta and the French studio Pathe has dropped the first-look trailer as it will debut first at the Cannes Film Festival on July 9, 2021.

The film stars Virginie Efira, Charlotte Rampling, Daphné Patakia, and Lambert Wilson.

Benedetta is based on the 1986 non-fiction book Immodest Acts: The Life of a Lesbian Nun in Renaissance Italy by Judith C. Brown with a script penned by Verhoeven and David Birke. It’s been a longtime coming as they wrapped production back in 2018 and the film has been patiently waiting for a festival reveal after a 2020 premiere at Cannes was cancelled due to the pandemic.

In the late 17th century, with plague ravaging the land, Benedetta Carlini joins the convent in Pescia, Tuscany, as a novice. Capable from an early age of performing miracles, Benedetta’s impact on life in the community is immediate and momentous.

Claire Foy Stars In Period Horror Flick ‘Dust’ – ‘Westworld’s Karrie Crouse Penned Script and Co-Directs

Deadline has news of another interesting film project coming out of the Cannes Virtual Market. British actress Claire Foy will star in an original psychological horror film titled Dust that will be set in Oklahoma during the 1930s.

Westworld writer Karrie Crouse penned the script and will co-direct the film with William Joines. The project from MadRiver is seeking international partners this week with Mad Dog Films and Secret Engine producing.

Foy will play a young mother in 1930s Oklahoma who is haunted by her past and trapped in horrifying dust storms. She becomes convinced that her family is threatened by a mysterious presence and takes extraordinary measures to protect them.

Foy is best known from her work on the Netflix series The Crown. She recently starred in Damien Chazelle’s First Man and attempted to take over the Lisbeth Salander mantle from Rooney Mara in Sony’s soft-reboot The Girl In The Spider’s Web.

Dust sounds like an interesting concept and we’ll have to wait to hear when they plan on starting production on the horror movie.

‘The Predator’ Actress Olivia Munn To Star and Produce Action Sci-Fi Film ‘Replay’

News out of the virtual Cannes market via The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that actress Olivia Munn will star and produce a new action flick titled Replay from The Exchange and Dark Castle Entertainment.

They’re comparing the film to a mix of John Wick, The Raid, and The Terminator.

Replay is the story of Erin Staffer (Munn), whose husband is kidnapped and murdered. Now, armed only with illegal, bleeding-edge tech and a hopeless plan, Erin must do everything in her power to change the past and save him.

Munn is best known for taking smaller supporting roles in films like X-Men: Apocalypse and The Predator but it sounds like this might be her chance to etch-out an action vehicle for her very own.

The action film is currently in pre-production stages with Jimmy Loweree writing and directing.

They’re now seeking international buyers.
