‘Dungeons & Dragons’ Movie Moves From May 2022 To March 2023 By Paramount

Paramount Pictures has announced a string of new dates for their upcoming feature film schedule and they’ve delayed the release of Dungeons & Dragons by almost an entire year.

They’ve officially moved the fantasy adventure film from May 27, 2022 to March 3, 2023.

Game Night’s John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein are directing and writing.

The growing cast includes Chris Pine (Star Trek, Wonder Woman), Michelle Rodriguez (Avatar, F9, Alita: Battle Angel), Rege-Jean Page (Bridgerton, The Gray Man), Justice Smith (Detective Pikachu, Jurassic Park: Fallen Kingdom), Sophia Lillis (It), and Hugh Grant (The Gentlemen, Five Eyes) is reportedly playing a villain.

The Ronin previously confirmed production under the working title Chainmail will be taking place in Belfast, Northern Ireland and France. The film’s cinematographer will be Barry Peterson (Game Night) and production designer Raymond Chan (The Falcon & The Winter Soldier).

Dungeons & Dragons is based on the beloved table top game that eventually incorporated various universes including elements from the Fafhrd & The Gray Mouser series of novels created by American fantasy author Fritz Leiber. It remains to be seen what Paramount’s angle will be with the new movie, if they’ll be setting it simply in a fantasy world or will be slightly inspired by the recent Jumanji film from Sony Pictures.

There is also a live-action series in the works from John Wick creator Derek Kolstad (The Falcon & The Winter Soldier, Nobody).

Paramount Delays ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ To November, ‘Mission: Impossible 7’ Until May 2022 & ‘Mission: Impossible 8’ Jumps To July 2023

Today, Paramount Pictures has announced a huge adjustment to their Tom Cruise films on their feature film schedule. As they’ve delayed the releases of Top Gun: Maverick, Mission: Impossible 7, and Mission: Impossible 8.

The new dates are below.

  • Top Gun: Maverick – November 19, 2021
  • Mission: Impossible 7 – May 27, 2022

Mission: Impossible 7 has completed production according to writer/director Christopher McQuarrie with the supporting cast includes Esai Morales, Rebecca Ferguson, Simon Pegg, Vanessa Kirby, Shea Whigham, and Henry Czerny.

Mission: Impossible 8 was originally going to shoot back-to-back with the seventh installment but the studio decided against it as it was going to conflict with the summer press tour for Top Gun: Maverick. However, with Maverick being pushed to November it’s unknown if that will motivate them to start filming sooner than expected.

TOP GUN: MAVERICK – After more than thirty years of service as one of the Navy’s top aviators, Pete “Maverick” Mitchell (Tom Cruise) is where he belongs, pushing the envelope as a courageous test pilot and dodging the advancement in rank that would ground him. Bradley Bradshaw (Miles Teller), call sign: “Rooster,” the son of Maverick’s late friend and Radar Intercept Officer Lt. Nick Bradshaw, aka “Goose.”

Phoebe Waller-Bridge Officially Joins Harrison Ford In ‘Indiana Jones 5’ – John Williams Returns To Score

Breaking news!

Disney and Lucasfilm has officially announced today that British actress Phoebe Waller-Bridge and composer John Williams have joined James Mangold’s untitled Indiana Jones 5. The news was first mentioned on the Indiana Jones Twitter account with a tweet that you can see below.

Phoebe is likely best known from her series Fleabag and was part of the main cast of Lucasfilm’s Solo: A Star Wars Story. She wrote on No Time To Die and is said to be also working on developing the story/script for the untitled Bond 26, the latter is expected to have a new actor in the role of James Bond. Another interesting project on the horizon is an Amazon Prime Video series reboot of Mr. & Mrs. Smith with Phoebe reuniting with Solo co-star Donald Glover, as the two will take on the roles previously played by Brad Pitt and Angelina in the Doug Liman film.

James Mangold is writing and directing Indiana Jones 5, having previously worked on the X-Men franchise with The Wolverine and Hugh Jackman’s final outing Logan. His other films such as Cop Land, Ford v Ferrari, and Walk The Line have been more grounded which would suggest he’s been brought in to help elevate the final film that will star Harrison Ford.

Details about the film or Phoebe’s role haven’t been shared by Disney. Although, director James Mangold has teased the film will take place the 1970’s.

Production is said to begin sometime this summer.

As stated in the tweet, Indiana Jones will be released on July 29, 2022 going head-to-head with Dwayne Johnson’s DC Comics film Black Adam.

Netflix Secures Multi-Year Deal Landing Streaming Rights To Sony Feature Films Starting In 2022

Many people had been curious why Sony Pictures hadn’t started-up their own streaming service or attempted to sign a deal with an existing streaming player. That has all changed as there is news today via The Hollywood Reporter that Sony and Netflix have signed a lucrative deal giving the them the streaming rights to their feature films starting in 2022 after the theatrical/home video windows.

Sony has inked a multi-year, exclusive first pay window licensing deal in the U.S. that will allow Netflix first pay window rights to Sony Pictures titles following their theatrical and home entertainment windows, the studio announced Thursday. (The typical pay one window is 18 months.)

Over the course of the deal, Netflix has also committed to financing a number of titles from the studio’s motion picture group. These will encompass the films that Sony intends to make directly for streaming from inception or decides at a later point to license for streaming. The announcement notes that Sony’s theatrical output will “continue at its current volume.

The new deal also gives them access to Sony’s Spider-Man franchise which is going to continue to expand for the foreseeable future as they’ll have dibs on future Spider-Man (mentioned by THR) and Venom films. It will seemingly include upcoming spinoff movies such as Olivia Wilde’s Spider-Woman film, J.C. Chandor’s Kraven The Hunter, Madame Web, Jackpot, Black Cat, Silver Sable, and Nightwatch.

Upcoming releases part of this deal include Uncharted, Morbius, Bullet Train, Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse 2, and other films released within the deal.

There was always a hint that Netflix was going to seek a studio partnership after Disney+ became their main competition and HBO Max started throwing the new releases from the Warner Bros. slate on the streaming service.

It’ll be curious if Netflix will attempt to develop exclusive series based on Sony franchises as well. In September, it was reported that a Silk live-action series was in the works with Amazon being considered with Phil Lord, Chris Miller, and Amy Pascal producing. Cindy Moon aka Silk is a spinoff character from Sony’s stable of Spider-Man universe heroes.

WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar Suggests Blockbusters Will Return Exclusively To Theaters In 2022 Before Landing On HBO Max

As Godzilla Vs. Kong ended up having a better than expected international and domestic debut at the box office, it sounds like WarnerMedia won’t be carrying over the day-and-date model into 2022 at the same level.

WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar spoke with Vox on their podcast Recode Media, revealing that 2022 is expected to see blockbusters return to more traditional release windows with a theatrical run and landing on HBO Max later on.

KILAR: “I think it’s very fair to say that a big, you know, let’s say a big DC movie … it’s very fair to say that that would go exclusively to theaters first and then go to somewhere like an HBO Max after it’s in theaters.”

Their 2022 lineup includes The Batman on March 4, Fantastic Beasts 3 on July 15, Black Adam on July 29, The Flash on November 4, and Aquaman 2 on December 16.

However, only specifically mentioning the bigger movies might mean that movies like Judas & The Black Messiah won’t get the same theatrical exclusivity as the the massive blockbusters that would still need a large box office return to turn a profit.

This comes after AT&T CEO John Stankey had been quoted last year suggesting the day-and-day model would be something they’d considering continuing beyond the pandemic as the standard release window, something that had been controversial at the time.

We still don’t know if a film like Legendary’s Dune will even land on HBO Max later this year, as a deal has yet to be made official and director Denis Villeneuve has argued that it could seriously damage the sci-fi films’ franchise chances. It’s worth noting that Dune is only part one of a two-part story as they’ve split the first Dune book into two planned films, the 2021 release will end on a cliffhanger. Denis hasn’t even shot the second film and could screw-up Legendary’s plans for future installments (there are six original novels from author Frank Herbert).

Sly Stallone Confirms He Won’t Be Appearing In Michael B. Jordan-Directed ‘Creed 3’ & Teases ‘Rocky’ Prequel Series

There was some exciting news concerning Creed 3 as MGM had decided to get Michael B. Jordan, the star of the spinoff of Sly Stallone’s Rocky franchise, would be making his feature film directorial debut on the third installment. They’ve already given the sequel a release date of November 23, 2022.

However, there is an update from Sly Stallone stating he’s unlikely gong to play Rocky Balboa again for it. In an exchange with a fan on Instagram (spotted by JoBlo), Stallone revealed he wouldn’t be reprising the role of Rocky Balboa in Creed 3. This echoes previous suggestions made by the actor on social media that Creed II was going to be the last one he would be involved with.

STALLONE: “It will be done but I won’t be in It. Keep punching.”

Interestingly enough, a week ago Stallone teased a pitch he was coming together for a Rocky prequel series.

STALLONE: “This may be the strangest posting yet. I started out this morning by writing a treatment for a Rocky prequel For streaming. Ideally 10 episodes for a few seasons to really get to the heart of the Characters in there younger years – Here is a small portion of how my creative writing Process starts…Hope it happens – And then I needed to clear my head so I went fishing… Talk about extremes!”

Stallone voices King Shark in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad coming out on August 6, 2021.

‘Shape of Water’ Plagiarism Lawsuit Against Guillermo del Toro Has Been Dismissed

Director Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water was a lovely and horny love letter to the filmmaker’s passion for movie monsters. The off-beat genre flick was a hit earning an impressive 12 Oscar nominations leading to wins for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Production Design, and Best Original Score. Guillermo co-wrote The Shape of Water script with Vanessa Taylor, the pair landing a nomination for Best Original Screenplay.

THE SHAPE OF WATER – Elisa is a mute, isolated woman who works as a cleaning lady in a hidden, high-security government laboratory in 1962 Baltimore. Her life changes forever when she discovers the lab’s classified secret — a mysterious, scaled creature from South America that lives in a water tank. As Elisa develops a unique bond with her new friend, she soon learns that its fate and very survival lies in the hands of a hostile government agent and a marine biologist.

Making money, being popular, and becoming a multiple Oscar nominations led to a claim of plagiarism from David Zindel, the son of Let Me Hear You Whisper playwright Paul Zindel. With Zindel suggesting that Guillermo del Toro took from his father’s play for The Shape of Water and filing a copyright lawsuit back in February 2018, just before the Oscars ceremony that saw the film earn four awards. Fox called the claim baseless back in 2018 and there was an update on the upcoming trial.

LET ME HEAR YOU WHISPER – The play revolves around Helen, a recently hired scrub-woman, at the American Biological Association Development for the Advancement of Brain Analysis. During the course of her work, Helen learns the plight of an imprisoned intelligent dolphin that is being harshly studied by scientists.

Yesterday, it was announced via outlets such as The Hollywood Reporter that the lawsuit has been dismissed avoiding a trial that was said to begin in July.

Searchlight Pictures added this comment below on the lawsuit and suggests the two sides have agreed to simply end the dispute.

“David Zindel, the son of Paul Zindel, author of Let Me Hear You Whisper, acknowledges, based on confidential information obtained during the litigation process, that his claims of plagiarism are unfounded. He acknowledges Guillermo del Toro as the true creator of The Shape of Water.  Any similarity between the two works is coincidental.”

The next film from Guillermo del Toro is a remake of the thriller Nightmare Alley that is set to be released on December 3, 2021.

‘Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania’ Indeed Planning To Shoot Scenes In San Francisco

Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania is going to be third installment in the Ant-Man franchise with director Peyton Reed returning alongside a a growing cast that consists of Paul Rudd as Scott Lang, Michael Douglas as Dr. Hank Pym, Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet, Kathryn Newton as the new Cassie Lang, and Lovecraft Country’s Jonathan Majors playing Marvel Comics baddie Kang The Conqueror.

The Ronin has been able to confirm that Marvel is planning on returning to shoot selected scenes in San Francisco, California at some point during the film’s production and likely will be exteriors. Back in November, we had heard that filming would be heading back but can now confirm this information as the studio is in the pre-production stage and securing filming locations before the summer shoot.

San Francisco is the main setting of the first two Ant-Man films and Marvel shot there briefly last year for Destin Daniel Cretton’s Shang-Chi & The Legend of The Ten Rings. Sony’s Venom and Venom: Let There Be Carnage has also used to location.

The Ant-Man sequel is expected to shoot primarily in the United Kingdom at Pinewood Studios UK under the working title Dust Bunny (via Production Weekly). The Pinewood facility is said to have The Volume, which Peyton Reed got experience using on the two episodes of The Mandalorian he directed for Season 2. As we previously revealed, the production designer will be Will Htay (Andor, No Time To Die, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Rogue One, Solo).

Shooting their projects in multiple cities/countries has been tough for Marvel Studios during the pandemic and they might have scaled-back certain plans, but they’ve been able to manage this sparingly. The Hawkeye series has been able to shoot in both New York City and the Atlanta area despite the risk of any production shooting in the United States at the moment. Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness is also said to have scenes shot in New York City even though the main production is at Longcross Studios in Surrey, England.

Lilly announcing on Instagram that filming on the sequel will begin this summer.

Marvel Studios hasn’t given Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania an official release date but could be released sometime in 2022.

‘Captain Marvel 2’: ‘Widows’ Cinematographer Sean Bobbitt Reveals He’s Joined The Marvel Sequel

Captain Marvel 2 will see Nia DaCosta (Candyman) direct a trio of Marvel Studios heroines with the main cast set to star Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, Iman Vellani as Ms. Marvel, and Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau. As production is expected to take place this year under the working title Goat Rodeo (via Production Weekly) in the United Kingdom, a cinematographer has seemingly been selected.

Sean Bobbitt revealed to Below The Line News back in February that he’s signed-up for Captain Marvel 2 and that filming is indeed taking place in 2021.

BOBBITT: “I’m hoping to get back. I’m sort of signed-up to shoot Captain Marvel 2, so that will be a real change for me. It’s a very different type of film to what I usually make, and I’m very excited to be a part of that.”

The cinematographer’s credits include 12 Years A Slave, Judas & The Black Messiah, Widows, Byzantium, Shame, Hunger, The Place Beyond The Pines, and the Oldboy remake. Notably working consistently with British filmmaker Steve McQueen on a regular basis.

Zawe Ashton is reportedly playing a villain in Captain Marvel 2 and will likely have some connection to the Disney+ series Secret Invasion, which has a Skrull-focused plot with Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Ben Mendelsohn as Talos taking lead roles. The ending of WandaVision seemed to hint that Parris’ Monica Rambeau might end up showing up in Secret Invasion as well.

The original film took place mostly in the 1995 and we last saw Talos pretending to be Nick Fury in Spider-Man: Far From Home. It should be interesting seeing Danvers interacting with Monica and Fury in the present. We have to assume that the new cosmic organization S.W.O.R.D. (introduced in WandaVision) will have an increased role in both Secret Invasion and the Captain Marvel sequel.

Captain Marvel 2 currently has a release date of November 11, 2022.
